World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

Oh my GHod. I am shaking with nerves.
How we hung on I don’t know but it worked. Superb defending.
And breathe….
You were actually relatively comfortable if you’d watched it through neutral eyes which is impossible when you’re emotionally invested.

It reminded me of the Dippers against us when they went down to 9 under Ange. England defended the box brilliantly so every player deserves immense credit for that. So too does the manager for his changes in personnel and tactics.

Well done England, didn't think they had that in them. Mexico panicked. Try something different after the 50th cross doesn't work!

You’re absolutely right. Was like watching a Thomas Frank team. But England made it really difficult for them. There was no space to try and exploit in the England defence. Tuchel deserves so much credit for that last 20 mins.

I don’t know why, but I just didn’t think we’d lose. Before the game and during, I just believed we were winning that game.

I look at this tournament and the only team I can see being a coin flip against England is France. Everyone else I think England will eventually beat physically or technically. The issue is France have both to a high level.

Agree with @DeanoAustin , I almost was viewing it like a neutral even though I’m not, and felt totally comfortable. We defended so well. Some of the blocks were so good that the ball was sent back into their half. Of course you can always get unlucky with a bounce of a ball but we earned our luck for that not to happen.

Performance showed great spirit in difficult situation, I thought we defended too deep and were inviting trouble particularly at set pieces where there is so much going on. Stones was a good substitution and replacing Kane was brave and the right thing to do.

I'm not a big fan of Pickford but he was superb the whole game tonight, didn't put a foot wrong.
Spence when he came on was brilliant and Jude, what a player.
That whole game is just an instant classic. At altitude, delayed ko, down to 10 and in a stadium with so much world cup history it brings it's own pressure even before you account for the Mexican fans. Amazing game.

The way the bracket's going also will help. Way I see it, England have enough to overcome Norway. Then it's probably Argentina in the semis, and they really are nothing special in this tournament - they were praying for full-time against Cabo Verde, and they lack a bit of cohesiveness, relying heavily on moments of magic. This side should be making the final, which in itself is something no England side has done since '66.

My heart was broken when my boys went out against Morocco. But after this game, there's none I'd rather see on the podium than this England side. Heart, resolve, togetherness, skill - everything you want to see, from a team from all backgrounds!
