When was the last season that we were 'ruthless' in terms of finishing chances created?

Poch has really upped our game in terms of our general play and particularly our creativity imo.

But i still feel we aren't converting enough of them (see Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Middlesbrough plus several games last season).

I think we were more ruthless in Poch's first season, and even then perhaps only in comparison to the following season and this.

Looking back at your time supporting Spurs, when do you think we were at our most ruthless; i.e. a very high chance conversion rate?

For me, i'd perhaps say 2006/07. We were poor at the back, but almost always had the feel of having the ability to score given chances. Perhaps 2007/08 as well.

Thoughts?

Under Jol we had great strikers but poor midfielders, so Berbs and Keane had to create then score their own chances. Now the unit works together and the AMs carve out chances for the forwards. I think it's probably a perception that we are less clinical though - overall we are much more effective.

I'd agree with a lot of that actually, especially the last bit. I still think we aren't as clinical as we could be though. However, it's better to be working well as a unit and creating more chances than creating less, even if more clinical. In the long run the former is easier to improve on.

To be fair, i must admit often in our games i have watched over the last month that @Spursman may have a point. Some of the final balls do often leave a lot to be desired, and perhaps are adding to Janssen's current struggles.
For all of Lamela's chance creation highs, his final ball can be undercooked. Ditto Alli (esp on Tuesday).
I think it will get better though.

I'd be more worried if we weren't creating much but had a crazy high conversion rate as that shows a bigger weakness overall

We're creating chances and the shows dominance and creativity

If like when we played Monaco we scored with our only shots on target like they did you have to be an amazing defensive side to win games

I actually think we have a great balance but agree we need to take more chances. Just a 10% improvement would be huge and probably worth a goal a game. Surely that isn't an unrealistic goal

We lose possession far too often. Alli, Lamela and Eriksen squander possession far too often trying the hollywood pass. I was watching Atletico vs Bayern last night and the difference was like night and day but not surprisingly I hear you say.

Also you don't tend to get specialist uber-finishers anymore, because the demands for CFs in variations of 4-5-1 are to be much more alround

Our final ball is crap. The likes of Eriksen, Lamela and Dele need to up their game. This is the position where we could do with an improvement in quality. A stand out player

Don't something like 80% of goals in top flight football come from mistakes? So purposeful probing is actually more what we are trying to achieve, rather than that illusive defence splitter?

Thats one Mr Shearer's punditry mantras "at least their creating chances" - If Son don't score we dont ATM ....we need to far more clinical.
The rest of our game is top draw but we are relying on our defence - maybe Poch is learning from his old team mate Simeone and wants to be like Atletico.
They were great last night, that is one very well drilled team.

I honestly think we're the English equivalent of that side and said so last season. I can't think of a better comparison and one that's more complimentary for a club in our stage of development

I also disagree that if son doesn't score we don't... People said that last season that we only score via Kane but we had a few others in double figures and players do pick up the slack

Son didn't play vs Gillingham and we scored 5 for example

Agree with first bit - Will consider the Son bit - but please lets leave Gillingham out of this.

Don't think we can as we scored 5 goals and took some of our chances that day whcoh so why we battered them

You can win every game 1 Nil with the same scorer and win the league or win the games 5-4 and stil get the same points

The key is results and getting them first and foremost

Didn't we score the second most goals in the league last season? The most shots and the best shot accuracy?

Yeah we did but this season we haven't been as good so far on that front

But our defence is comfortably the best performing again

We're slow starters and have lost our top scorer from last season. Counter to that, our form appears to be improving, the team are performing well as a unit and our squad is stronger, involved and largely playing well.

Nothing to see here.
