What would YOUR priority signing be in the Jan transfer window?

Gomes confuses me. He has owned our midfield several times when we've played against them. However, he's not been snaffled up by a big club and wasn't even on anyone's radar this summer just gone. What do the big clubs see that we don't?
I like Gomes also, really good technical player, but as others have said maybe judging him against our midfields isn't the smartest thing to do. 😅🤣

So I pulled up some stats and he generally rates well against his peers in terms of wining the ball and progressive passing without absolutely excelling at the latter. When you compare his radar to Palhina he stills statistically fits the mould but with much better use of the ball.

I think that’s why we won’t buy Palhina

The best player we could sign is Anderson
Would cost huge money but that’s the rice deal arsenal did for comparison
Wharton, Anderson, Ederson (unobtainable by us) and either Gomes spring to mind. I haven't really watched Moribo but hear very good things, then there is Baleba but he's probably United bound and will cost a fortune.

Super player. Have no clue why Saudi Sportswashing Machine let him head to Forest.

With Anderson, Rogers, Bellingham, Rice, Wharton, Foden, Mainoo, O'Reilly etc there's some real depth in the English contingent nowadays.

Makes me wonder where Joao Gomes compares to these English guys.

money for PSR and they also had other cMs
The move has made him and he is IMO right now the best CM in the league even ahead of any at Arsenal
Another English alternative would be Hackney who I know some don’t rate but again he is captaining boro who are doing great again in the championship and he is their captain.

Had the debate with my mates about the 3 ideal players we could get
For me it’s Anderson, semenyo and probably Robinson at left back
That’s a £200m ish investment so plain daft

Then thinking of alternatives I had Hackney for CM, Henry for left back and Poku for left wing (he was crazy fast when playing against us last year and seems to have settled well in Germany)
I think Grimaldo would be a smart buy as he can play left back and left wing and hits a mean set piece

I want us to get Rovella for midfield. I might have said a few times.

I'm not aligned with this thought process. So we buy 3 in January and probably another 5 or 6 in the summer and probably end up with deadwood departure lounge 25-32 year olds out on loan again for one or two seasons as we can't find buyers. It all sounds familiar. That is, unless you're implying that we go big in Jan and make minimal changes in the summer.

For me, we've made this bed and we need to lie in it. We need to change the quantity over quality transfer strategy and we definitely need to start promoting youngsters in the next phase. We also need to keep finding the Mason Meilias and taking a punt.

If I were Spurs I might go all in on one player in the Jan window. Anderson would be great. Semenyo fantastic. Those players in the 21-26 year old category so we can think about 5 years out of them. Players that can become cornerstones of a different Spurs. Then as we get Maddison back and promote guys like Vuskovic in the summer, this thing continues to build. Those 2 will feel like 2 new signings for Frank anyway.

I wouldn't be against Henry on loan though for 6 months. Wouldn't want to load him up with a 3 or 4 year contract though. Way too risky for a player who's decent, but not amazing.

Oh I’m calling that the ideal window
I’d take any first team ready player as progress
I do agree the squad looks awfully bloated
I’d be reviewing every player over 27 and make a judgement as to whether we keep them
Issue as last is selling our players seems impossible
We still have Bissouma who no one wanted and he will leave on a free next summer
That seems to be the only way for them to go

Imagine we don’t buy Paulina and use that money to throw maybe £80m at forest for Anderson. That would improve the midfield base instantly in an area we’re awfully weak and also have no one coming through in. And he of course passes forward better Than any midfielder in the league

Dont know of him
I’ll do some googling
One we could get… would be a big move but was talk he would leave is Locatelli
Top drawer at doing the things we need and wouldn’t come with prem tax

Locatelli is very similar to Bentancur isn't he? The reason Juve let Bentancur go is because they'd just spent lots of money on essentially the same player (on the back of Locatelli's breakthrough Euro 2020 performances).

Nah
He is a ball player
Wins the ball well but takes it forward
Top 99% for passing forwards

I don't think we'd get Henry on a 6 month loan considering he is out of contract in the summer.

If we're going to sign another left back (I personally think we need to as we are incredibly unbalanced when Udogie cannot play) then I think we have to make a decision on whether we want proper competition for Udogie (that would likely be an expensive player) or a back-up who at least will allow us to play the same way if Udogie is out.

A player that really impressed me in games against us and also impressed me in other games I saw that his club played is Fredrik André Bjørkan at Bodo Glimt. I like his attitude and work rate, the way he gets forward to support attacks, the way he links play and his creativity. He is 27 years old so not young and hasn't exactly had a stellar career but I think he would do pretty well in the premier league and not be expensive in terms of transfer fee or wages. Could be one of those smart sort of signings that allow us to spend almost all of our money on the positions where we need a true first team upgrade.
