The fact that the ESPN crew (i don't mean Juls and Gab, as i think they are a cut above) can eloquently lay things out like that, then you know there really are basic issues...

My question isn't unanswerable; it's just difficult. I also haven't asked for consensus - I asked for individual answers; no one is prepared to be honest enough to answer it.

Re; your question.
Mine for the present is top six, with a top four push and an solid attempt to win a cup. Ideally the EL.
This extends to next season too. It needs to run parallel with building something that looks like it can cement that position and build into regular top 4 and cup challenges - squad wise I think we're in a good position for that. Football wise, attacking wise we are; in every other aspect of our game we are not. I don't even mind the last bit, as long as there are signs of change.
I'd be comfortable with finishing 8th this year if it meant real shoots of progress - and we are seeing that with Gray, and probably Spence, and definitely Kulu, and Solanke. Possibly Sarr.
I'm excited for Odobert too.
I'm happy to be patient, because I'm seeing progress. I'm happy to give Ange the same patience because he's operating at a higher level than before - but instead of seeing progress, I'm seeing stubborness; it's very frustrating, because I really want him to succeed.

What if he won us something? Imagine him being able to turn around and say "Maties, you took the tinkle when I said I win things in my second year. Who's laughing now? I've gone and done it my way". That this could be the first of many.

Bill Nic finished 18th in his first season. Can't imagine many thought he'd bring us the glory he did. Burkinshaw got us relegated early on in his reign. From second division to two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup - who'd have thought it? Maybe this is the dark before Ange leads us into the light.

I see the flaws. I have massive doubts he can do it. But I'm not so arrogant that I can't accept the possibility that I'm wrong and think it's worth that risk at this point of the season. And if I am wrong, I can't think of anyone I'd rather lead us to glory than a fella who embodies everything I love about the game and our traditions as a club.

Depends what he wins, if it’s just one of the crappy domestic cups and we don’t qualify for the CL that’s weaseling out of it as far as I’m concerned and I’ll still be moaning.

I'd take a good cup run and top 7 this season - I think that's realistic and accounts for the injuries. Underachievement in a normal season - par when accounting for the injuries.

A cup final and qualifying for EL is what I expected at the start of the season.
The shadow of form being atrocious after that first magnificent spell is something I just can't shake. If we go the second half of this season magnificently, then I'll accept it as all part of the building work.

His last couple of press conferences would suggest he’s struggling to handle it tbf. I hope the club are helping him out.

They need to turn on someone, it's not going to be pep or amorin.
Liverpool and Chelsea have nothing to moan about, so it's us or arsenal.
If he is sacked Arteta is next in line, especially if saka is out for a while and results suffer.
Alt looking Saudi Sportswashing Machine and their run of up and coming fixtures however could get a bit sweaty.

Completely agree but a big part of that is them smelling the blood in the water. Media/social media today is utterly devoid of insight, it's a narrative, but narratives (like all stories) work when they have some basis to work from.

It creates pressure, pressure helps no one, it's why the club badly needed/needs a run of results to keep the noise down (as well as progress)

Nothing most of us haven't stated.
One good half season last year.
Then a leaky second half.
Leaky first half to this season - a divided view about whether that's injuries or Ange.
We'll find out soon.

The media are full of brick mostly, they are so many wanabees trying to justify their wages that they will say anything to justify their jobs. Things need to improve for sure but i am not going to take what they say is anymore then filling spaces and trying to suggest they know more then anyone else.
