VAR: Sponsored by Chelsea

And just think they were actually a few who thought this would be good for the game.

Give it time. People have a remarkable ability to put up with brick. Theyll tinkle and moan about it, but theyll put up with it.

I also think the number of people willing to give it up specifically because of VAR will be far less than you seem to anticipate.

Its here to stay, you should know that.

Question is how much reform is it open to?

agree 100.6%

I am all for the VAR in principle.
The handball at Arsenal has bothered me greatly, it has the sticky paw prints of the slimy PGMOL all over it.
PGMOL have changed quite a bit under the name of UK 'rule interpretation' to the point where VAR is being bypassed or just ignored.
Our goal was a no brainer, being ruled out was wrong and the VAR team have a technical problem with such silly implementation. Does this one need an (under Xcm + or - is level and thus onside) or something along those lines? I don't understand why they are trying to be so exact when they know it not doable with current video technology.

In essence, the PGMOL have watered it down to avoid the controversy that they now might as well not bother using it.

Heard one tonight.

VAR only becomes active on offsides if a player scores.

So if a player is offside when they get ball and is fouled in box and get a pen VAR does not kick in to check the offside, nor if the shot is saved and goes behind and they score from subsequent corner.

So its all abit mental and makes no real sense.

It comes into play for goals scored so that makes sense although obviously the whole turns doesn’t at all

Why complicate it? There are what - 3-4 refs in that trailer? They should be able to review every meaningful action on that pitch for the full 90 minutes and act whenever the ref messes up a major decision/situation.

This whole "we check this, but not that, and if this is the case, we might not check it after all" flimflam is what's ruining everything. Just watch the replays and react when you see something not right.

We need retrospective VAR!

jokes aside I was pro a mechanism that could take away any question of a cheating or incompetence from the human referee or Lino, but when decisions are still being made incorrectly / inconsistently with the help of a video replay there is no point having it. Maybe simplifying the rules would help, along with setting a limit on the time that can be taken to review would help. As in if you can’t decide after looking at replays and angles within one minute stick with the original decision.

For some reason the FA is scared brickless of allowing the (qualified) referee in the box to actually make any decisions in play.

They are completely wed to the idea the man on the field is the only one. Its ridiculous and is the root of many of the issues at play with the system.

Much like when they made decrees about abuse the ref being cracked down on etc, they bottled actually standing by the rules.
