U23s, Academy and Loanees

Checking to see how Ajax got on and see Bergwijn is their captain and his performances have been described as a sack of potatoes by Dutch journalist. I'm amazed how bad they have become.

They have. But sometimes you will suffer for it. Brighton seem to be feeling it a bit this season.

I know but they have the pick of the talent in Belgium and The Netherlands and a great record of getting unknown players, Brighton have good scouting set up but no record of youth development.

Good to see Devine get in there with some important end product.

Have heard that their playing style doesn't really suit him. But getting some goals while having to fight it out a bit could be good for his development.

Good game for U21s last night, they played well in parts but paid for mistakes. Important they play against experienced players, it wasn't Posh first team but plenty of experienced players.

They tried to play as the senior team, possession, pass out the back, more complex build up while opposition played a little more direct (and we got caught on counter)

Quick observations, Donley had a poor game (unusual for him), Veliz is very strong and definitely a threat in the air, Phillips was concerning, pacy and physical but did not seem to have the ability to pass forward (bad night?), literally 90% of the time, carried the ball forward then passed ball diagonally backward to his CB partner. Needs to sort that if he's ever going to play 1st team for us.

Regular playing time at that age matters, none of the lower level clubs really play in ways that suit us, but learning the grind and physicality will help him develop.
