Transfer thread

Do you then disagree with the figures in the graphic?
(Or are you counting obligations...as money that will be banked?)

Was working off Ali Gold's numbers (he went through the 54 transactions)

Assuming the graphic is the purely committed, meaning no add ons are hit, if add ons/obligations are hit, it gets to 264M. While I suspect the answer is somewhere in the middle, it also doesn't seem to account for loan fees/wages off books (14 loans) even for the year.

Either way, I suspect it falls short (certainly not exceeding) of previous 3 years (not making a judgement, just a statement)

You're focusing too much on those 7 games. Super small smoke sized with a very specific target. The results of those games very likely wasn't sustainable both in the goals conceded and the wins Vs losses.

Individually we can have a worse defense but still perform better as a unit if RDZ gets the setup right. Time will tell if he's gotten it right but the defense of last season was rotten and needed some changes.

Not arguing, my point was, on paper, the defense is weaker, midfield and wide stronger.

As a unit, to be seen.

According to Ali Gold, it's 344M out, up to 264M in (depends on add ons), the only way I'm seeing it hit 150M is if we buy Mudryk for 75M, which I cannot see happening, and isn't an obligation anyway.

Yeh because he’s including he add ons which you can’t do.

As a unit perhaps, individually no question for me, weaker

- Romero is a better player than JPVH
- Danso is a better backup than Tosin
- Spence is a better FB than Gray
- Vicario is still more proven than Kinsky
- Add in the obvious gap in aerial ability and physicality.

RDZ cut down the goals conceded in last 7 games of season by about 50% (with those bad defense players), it's now (again, super small, irrelevant sample size) swung back to 5 goals conceded in first two games.

To be fair, I've always felt lots of teams had crappier individual defenders but were managing better as a unit, so to be seen (think Leeds conceded less than us with Rodon as an ever present)

Romero missed 40% of games for us. 30% of the time he was a liability. 30% he was sensational. Overall JPVH will give us more.

I still don't think either of those two quite work. The top one doesn't have a goalscorer and the bottom one doesn't have a playmaker. We are just one quality player missing in either the 10 or 9 (basically whichever Marmoush doesn't play in)

Kinsky
Porro, JPvH, VDV, Udogie
Tonali, Fernandez
Kudus, Kulu, Savio
Marmoush

Is what we need to see sooner rather than later to really start flying
While waiting for Kulu, could we go with..

Savio Kudus Tel
Marmoush

Or

Savio kudus Marmoush
Solanke

?

Dont really like Kudus on the right, he often flatters to deceive when it comes to real output imo

Your concerns about Kudus on the right will just be swapped to Savio if he largely plays from the right. he's not an output guy really on that side. He's much more a playmaker/traditional winger than he is an inside forward/wing forwards. He historically has more output on the left than the right, even for City though he rarely played there.

Well I don't think when someone says 10, 11, 12 they are being totally accurate with their numbers. He was obviously speaking generally. Your list is a strange one as you've included players we couldn't sell even he wanted to due to their inured status along with the likes of Austin, someone who is just here for the fun of it. Even Richy is on your list and we know for certain he was fine with him moving on.

I'll be honest I think you're being a little naive. He's the coach of the club, he knows he can't replace every single player so there's no benefit to hit castigating individuals publicly. When asked he's always likely to say something positive about every player but the proof is actually in the pudding which was the transfer window we just experience along with how many of the existing players actually get significant minutes this coming season.

.

I don't think there is naivety anywhere in this to be fair. RDZ was being deliberate to his players and new employers and fans alike. I also think he has tried on many occasion to throw love and compliments at all players since to soften those comments. He knows the last thing he needs is disenfranchised players. That being said, it's not easy having the camera slammed in your face every few days and you won't always be as articulate as you want. Did he get the wording perfect in second language? Probably not right?

Saying that, players aren't dumb. When your manager basically says what he said, you need to calculate which bucket you're in. I'm not sure the number is even that important and nobody got to see that names on that list, except for perhaps Lange. We all know what he was really saying was that his squad was too good to go down but not good enough to compete at the top.

What is most important next is that he becomes proprietorial about EVERY player in his playing squad.

The sub-plot here is what Richi said at the weekend. I've wondered how RDZ is reacting to that privately.

Yeah, let's hope so. Let's also hope Howard Webb's lot don't just move to a new THFC player target. I wouldn't put it past that toxic organisation to identify the new Romero at Spurs.

We played out our window in public, RDZ was very open about the window and expectations, spoke about there being a number of targets and deals he expected, all great, not a problem with that, but it will also blow up with player relations. Richy played us for a better deal for himself for it, so all has to be assumed fair on both sides.
