Strange... I can see the attraction of Ake to fill in for VDV and also LB, but Akanji is right footed and never really impressed at LCB...

He won’t cover the LB role no, but he is about 10x the CB Ake will ever be. Depends what we’re looking for.

We're light i guess in CM if we plan to play DM+CM+CM

But otherwise not bad options/depth

I think in a DM+CM+CM system both Simons and Maddison can play in one of those box to box roles.

And Bentancur can play DM at a push whilst Gray could also play CM. Not to the same levels ofcourse but it would only be in extreme situations/injury crisis.

I think Akanji is rather good and versatile. Experienced too, all of which could be useful. Perhaps not ideal at LCB or LB, but definitely can do a job.

As we have seen with the Burnley game selection,the level of protection required can fluctuate depending on opponent.

The good news is even with the 3 that would be bemoaned as 'no fudging creativity ' Paulinha Bentancur Sarr has been seen to be bloody effective.

It's all about having options and flexibility.
Spence and Udogie as attacking FBs.
VdV as a more defeny LB, with a good pass and LCB if packing the midfield.
Danso comes into a 3, but we are short then.

£15m for Akanji would be a steal

Not a chance in hell he leaves anytime soon
We will be playing 60 plus games this year, we need 4 decent CB's or we will be relying on Davies/Gray to cover there again

Honestly, unless we can pick up a real exciting opportunity at FB I don’t see the point in stop gaps this summer (we have those already).
