It's an interesting equation. How can all of these be true at the same time?
1) We desperately need 2 or 3 more quality additions
2) Fans have only identified Richi and Biss that are surplus 1st team.
3) 1st team players will have to miss out on the UEFA squad as it's too big
4) Most of the U21s are being shipped out on loan, with no 1st team space available
There is something clearly amiss here and I think it always comes back to the quantity over quality equation. Are we still buying too many players that don't have high enough ceilings? Our squad is rammed.
1. We do indeed.
2. There are quite a few players who could be moved on if we bring in new players, especially if we bring in the right new players. Bissouma, Davies, Richarlison, Solomon & Gill could/should all depart our club.
3. So what? We're not going to win the Champions League, we can name
all of our players in our PL squad. If a few miss out on the CL squad then those players can be fresher for the PL games.
As things stand even with all those players included and all of our injured players included and naming 3 keepers in our squad we would still have space for another player in the squad to bring us up to the 25 players over 21 that we can name.
Considering Maddison is out for at least the first half of this season that is 2 additonal players we could name. If we assume that we move on Solomon and Gill then there are even two spare places for overseas players. If we also moved on Bissouma and Richarlison then we'd have 4 spaces for overseas players.
Don't make excuses for the club not adding to our squad. By all means say we're not making more signings as we can't afford to make them financially but don't make excuses about the squad being too big. It isn't.
4. That is not why they are being shipped out. All could be named in our PL squad and some could appear in our CL squad. They are being shipped out on loan because they're not good enough yet (and may never be) and they need to play regularly at a lower level to gain experience and improve in the hope that they may become good enough one day in years to come.
Our squad is not rammed. It is undersized to play across all competitions. As evidenced last season when our fatigue and injury situation was terrible and we had to put all our eggs in the Europa League basket.
