Transfer thread

Seemingly pretty much confirmed that Maddison will miss the majority of the season (can hope for sooner, but to be back to regular football and playing well will take time).

Hopefully we see some incoming movements fairly quickly, specifically a creative #10.

I keep reading the name Brahim Diaz on loan. That would be a great second loan for us and punt the problem down the road a little.

It'll be February at the earliest.

Yeah, hopefully get Elliott or El Khannouss in asap. Both are for sale and the prices seem reasonable

He's quite good isn't he?

If that's the best we can do, fair enough. To me this went from a priority to our biggest priority the moment Maddison got injured. Not just for right now, but for the entire window.

Imo this should be the "sink whatever is left of the transfer window to get the best possible player in" moment.

I like Elliott a lot, seems like a really good player. EL Khannouss also seems really talented and already a good player.

Losing Sonny and Maddison we're losing so much experience too in those attacking positions. And in Maddison our main "just give me the ball" player. Our main creative force. A key ball progressor. We may have added somewhat to that with the signing of Kudus, but still. Qualities we were short on even when Maddison was on the pitch.

I hope we have a move up our sleeve bigger than Diaz, Elliott or El Khannouss. But not sure who that would or should be. If that's not available one of those mentioned may be the move to make.

He's the wrong type of player though isn't he (though he is good)? He's a dribbler from the right flank. Basically another Kudus.

He really need a specialist passer ACM, who is also a high tempo presser.

I can't think of anyone bigger profile for that role. Well it was MGW, wasn't it.

El Khannouss is a pretty similar profile (obviously different position) to what Wharton was 18 months ago. If our scouting is good, it could work. And Kulu being a month away, as well as having more creativity out wide this season (Kudus and Odobert), gives us a bit of a buffer. Elliott has a lot of experience for his age.

I don't know either who that would be after MGW.

Kulu for me is a very different player. Doesn't fit the "specialist passer" profile you mentioned in comparison to Diaz. He can play as a 10 for sure, but needs good passing quality and ball progression behind him.

Good point about the buffer from Kudus and Odobert. A more graft, less creative and pass quality heavy midfield is less of an issue with wide players like that.

Bergvall and Gray to can offer a bit of a buffer perhaps. If Bentancur can be released as an 8 instead of sitting like a 6 likewise. Still think this squad is now desperate for a creative 10 and that the right signing there now seems massively important.

This is how he is described online.....

Brahim Díaz is a versatile attacking player known for his dribbling, close control, and ability to unlock defences. He excels at carrying the ball, creating space, and linking up play through one-twos. While he can play as a winger or attacking midfielder, his best role might be as a "shadow striker" or false nine, operating between the lines and linking midfield and attack. He's also known for his work rate and pressing ability.

Surely a loan for a 26 year old player like this ticks some boxes. A permanent signing might be a different story though.

I don't think we need an exceptionally creative passer. They are useful, obviously - and if a good option becomes available we'll go for them.
MGW wasn't that, he's a bit more alround attacking midfielder.
Teams that play compact need someone to thread the needle - I think we'll see space created by timing and placement of the press and off the ball movement dragging the opposition shape, so you just need good vision and a good pass (Palhinha, bentancur, berg, Kulu) and runners (the wide guys, berg, sarr).
And Berg, Bent, Kulu carry the ball really well for a different option.

I agree that we don't necessarily need an exceptionally creative passer. A well rounded player like MGW would be very good, Maddison to is well rounded imo. He can play fantastic passes, but he mixes that with close control, dribbling, vision. A bit like MGW.

Against teams playing compact is part of the battle. Another is against teams that press high. Maddison could help us get through that press by dropping deeper, keeping and progressing the ball.

"Just give me the ball" type player who thrives in tight areas where others don't want it or are happy to just find a simple, but not particularly useful pass.

Elliott Anderson would be another option at Forest.

I'd still like Joao Gomes though. Not a 10, but would perfectly compliment Palhinha.
Joao Gomes' biggest weakness is apparently his passing though (According to the experts on here last time we were linked). He is more of a tenacious little terrier no.6 type like Palhinha
