Transfer Rumour Thread

My point is that Berahino is as unsuited to playing #9 as Son/Njie/Lamela/Chadli. It's just more of the same. Rather than a specialist in that position who can do a job in AM.

I'm pretty sure with my own eyes, rather than wikipedia, Ramirez has grown quite a bit taller than 5'9" now. If you look at more recent videos of him, he's usually the tallest player in the box.
On what have you based your opinion that Berahino is unsuited to playing as a number 9? It is his primary position. It is only Pulis who has changed this due to changing their style of play to a long ball game.

So how tall is Ramirez then? I bet he is no taller than Berahino.

He mostly played in a front two under Pullis I thought - only really playing the WF role for the u21's?

Barca say he's 175cm tall (SB is 179 for reference) but then I'm not sure if they've watched enough YT videos for us to rely on them to be accurate

He came on against Saudi Sportswashing Machine the other week and looked as though he'd either spent the last six months living in a gym or living in McDonalds, if we're to sign him then hopefully the former. The commentator even confused him with Victor Anichebe!

I have always thought that Berahino seemed a reasonably powerful player when watching him. I was actually surprised at how powerful he was that day when he gave Kaboul and Chiriches a going over at WHL at the start of last season.

Defoe and Bent played CF in 4-4-2s as well. And they'd be equally unsuited to being a lone #9 in our system as Berahino

I have no idea how tall Ramirez is. I just noticed that he'd had a big growing spurt (up and wide) between some of the early videos of him and some of the recent ones. A bit like Kane did between his Southend/Leicester/Norwich days and breaking into the first team last season.

I remember a time when Spurs were every second headline in the BBC gossip page. Now we barely get a mention.

I watched Berahino a handful of times last season and he was deployed primarily as a lone striker (what we're calling the #9 role here). And despite being on the losing side in a couple of the matches I watched, Berahino was comfortably the best player on the pitch. His hold-up play was unparalleled (especially for someone so young who isn't built like a tank) and on the occasions where he did drop off or shift towards the wing, he remained a class act.

You only have to go back to my earlier posts about him to see just how excited I was during the summer at the prospect of signing him. The notion that he couldn't replace Kane in our system is plain wrong based on my experience of the guy. The Berahino of last season could happily provide excellent cover for Kane while at the same time being versatile enough to play anywhere in our attack.

That said, I'm less enthusiastic about him now based purely on the shenanigans of the past few months. As I've said before, Peace bears almost all the responsibility for what's happened (in my view) but I don't think a professional athlete should slacken up on training because of that (which is what happened according to Pulis). Maintaining near-peak physical condition should be the primary goal of any pro athlete for the entirety of their career... no matter what contract or financial nonsense is going on behind the scenes. Just my view.

So yeah... can Berahino effectively play the same role as Kane for us? Based on last season; yes he can. Should we sign him? Really not sure any more.

I am still confused by this post.... Are you saying that Defoe and Bent have the same style/attributes and Berahino has exactly the same attributes as a player?

I'd agree, but I can't forget that snippet that popped up a while ago about one of his team-mates laying into him after he had a bad game (Morrison, I think?), with no-one else backing him up and the club ignoring his concerns. That was the season before last, but I doubt he's maintained a very high view of his team-mates after that incident (which, given that it was a senior pro biffing a young kid, seems repugnant to me): and equally, I doubt his team-mates are particularly interested in keeping him motivated in any significant way. When you couple that with the chairman of the club allegedly going back on his word when it comes to letting him leave, his manager constantly belittling him in the press and casting public aspersions about his attitude and desire, and his career stagnating on the bench at Albion with an increasingly hostile fanbase booing him and a team on the field that increasingly looks like one which has no place for him (being filled to the brim with Pulis' favourite bruisers, battlers and horror-tacklers)....I can't bring myself to blame him for allegedly being a bit wayward with his fitness and desire over the past few months. He's at a stupidly backwards club, was denied a move to one that would suit him and his style of play a whole lot more (judging by @DublinSpur 's assertions above) and denied the chance to play with team-mates from the England u-18 and u-21 sides, with whom he reportedly has a bond (with Kane in particular, for example, according to some media outlets) and for whom he probably feels a greater affinity than with his club team-mates who generally haven't hidden their dislike for him (unlike in, say, the Modric scenario): difficult to blame him for being a bit behind on his fitness work, really.

Good for Bournemouth, so unlucky with season long injuries this season, that was the last thing they needed in what was obviously going to be a tough season, glad they're still looking to improve. I know FFP is questionable, but they only get 10k a week what are they supposed to do?

GB Falcao and Cavani are in no way alike. You say Berahino is not striker yet West Brom fans were demanding he was played in his natural position (as a striker) when ever he was played out wide (before he got dropped) also, Lacazettes who you claim is also a WF is clearly a CF and you are just making things up to clearly back up your argument.

Berahino and Lacazettes only play CF in 4-4-2s. You've got to think how they'd be utilised In our system

It's like people have forgotten all the Soldado and Defoe troubles of accommodating little goalscorers who can't play with their backs to goal

Anyone here watch A-League? There is a real prospect playing for Melbourne City, by the name of Aaron Mooy. What a player, an attacking midfielder who has everything. Specialty is playing pin point 35 yard passes over the top of defences. Remind you of anyone. He would be cheap too.
