*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Panathinaikos OMT ***

With Smith and Carroll starting for the U21s tonight I think they'll be on the bench at best.

Three days between the games, young guys with few games behind them this season.
Don't think it will be an issue if they are needed.

I think that is a team that can go and get a good result for us in Athens still with half an eye on an importnant league game on sunday that we need to win. Be nice to start getting the likes of Adebayor and Parker fit so we can have a couple of extra options for these games as well as increased competition for places in the league.

The only player I'm aware of who played for both Tottenham Hotspur & Panathinaikos is Portuguese striker Hélder Postiga, who made 14 appearances and scored twice while on a loan spell from FC Porto in 2008.

Need to think about our upcoming games and use the squad somewhat. I'm assuming that Adebayor wont be fit, though would be helpful if he is as we could rest Lennon and play Dempsey out wide:

Can you explain that logic? Why does them playing for the U21s mean that they'll be on the bench on Thurs?

If we were planning on them starting on Thursday they wouldn't have started yesterday IMO. Could still feature, but depends on how they recover.

Apologies, I mis-read your post as saying that they would be on the bench "at least" rather than "at best. Ahem. Think i need another coffee....(and may some new lenses)

unless i am mistaken, Naughton & Livermore are both still injured.

It's no different than playing on thursday and then the Premier League game on sunday.
Which several players have done so far, Vertonghen one of them.
If anyone should be able to handle it then it would be the youngsters.

Fairly certain Adam Smith for one will be starting,
and if he doesn't then both Walker and Vertonghen will be in the same situation on sunday of "only" three days rest.

Wouldn't expect Carroll to start anyway, but why risk Smith if he's set to start on Thursday?

we cant carry on playing Vertonghan as much as we have been though. He's been playing in the league, Europa and Carling Cup. Hopefully Naughton will be back soon

Kind of my point with Adam Smith, same recuperation time as Vertonghen would get, so no point in resting Smith.
He needs games as well, while Vertonghen need rest.
Naughton is still injured and won't play.
One of Walker or Vertonghen more or less have to play - both if we don't use Smith.

i think we'll go pretty strong - a mixture of "first XI" and back up

Lloris
Walker Daws Caulker Verts
Sig Livermore
Lennon Dempsey Townsend (or maybe Townsend RW with Bale on the left)
Defoe

ABV will want 3 points on the board - get a few results and get the progression from the group sewn up, then blood some real youngsters.

Even looking at the team above, both Townsend and Caulks are young and inexperienced, especially at this level, and to a lesser degree Walker and Sig (only 23)

They played for Spurs & Panathinaikos...
