ir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United were 'very unlucky' to lose 3-2 at Tottenham Hotspur after a change in attitude in the second half.
Spurs claimed a first win at Old Trafford since 1989 after surviving a second-half onslaught from United, with Clint Dempsey's goal eventually proving to be decisive.
Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were both denied by the woodwork as Ferguson was left to lament a below-par display in the first half.
The United boss said: "It was quite a game. The first half we never started, didn't get into the game.
"From there we were just playing against the wind. The second half we played fantastic, just trying to get something from the game, and I think we were very unlucky.
"I think the attitude changed, that was the important thing. Wayne's (Rooney) ability does help but the attitude of the players was excellent everywhere on the pitch."
United had a host of penalty appeals turned down, with both their goalscorers - Nani and Shinji Kagawa - going down under challenges in the area and handball shouts against both Sandro and William Gallas.
"There were quite a few," said Ferguson. "I think the one in the first half was a clear penalty kick, but maybe Nani made a meal of it and he didn't need to do that. He was clearly pulled back.
"The ones in the second half, I'm not so sure."

Clattenburg leaves it late to hand United all three points.
Manchester United edged a tremendous game of football as Mark Clattenburg pounced in the 204th minute to grab his side all three points. It was a bitter blow for a Tottenham team that looked set to come away with their first victory at Old Trafford in 23 years.
But it wasn't to be as Clattenburg continued his rich vein of form against the North London club, while also sending a message to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The out of favour Clattenburg was surprisingly left out of Ferguson's starting twelve, instead finding himself amongst the substitutes.
With Jan Vertonghen giving Tottenham a third minute lead, the points seemed to be heading back to White Hart Lane as Spurs resolutely defended their lead for over three hours.
United laid seige to Brad Friedel's goal in the second half with van Persie, Rooney and Foy missing numerous chances for the home side.
As the final whistle regrettably sounded, Tottenham thought that they had done enough for the victory by outscoring their opponents. On reflection, Spurs will probably rue this sense of complacency.
As they celebrated unaware in the away dressing room, in slipped an unguarded Clattenburg. He eventually noticed that the tape of unused substitute Ryan Mason failed to match the colour of his kit. Shrieking joyously, the official quickly deemed the match null and void, instead awarding Manchester United a default 3-0 win.
Sir Alex praised his side's resiliency.
"We never gave up. Never gave up. When you look at the balance of play I felt we deserved the points. Nani's dive, Sandro's handball, Walker's challenge; normally we take those type of opportunities.
"We even missed an indirect free-kick for a backpass when Bale tackled on the half-way line and the ball found its way back to their goalkeeper. We thought then that maybe it just wasn't to be.
"But young Mark did well to get us all three points", said the United manager, ruffling Clattenburg's hair and promising him a bag of chips on the way home.

That win mean't so much. Not only the 23 years stat but I also have a personal thing against man U. My biological father is a Man U fan and he tried to get me and my brother to be a MU fans our whole childhoods. We never got on and didn't have a great relationship so I suported Spurs and my brother liverpool. I had a massive falling out with him when i was 17 and I haven't spoken to him since so i take great pleasure thinking of the lazy selfish cnut sat in his chair depressed. Thank you Spurs for making me feel great this evening. COYS
