The Cricket Thread

Hmm I’m not sure personally…. We don’t even look like making a par score, let alone a good one….. so far at least (fingers crossed). Even with much poorer sides against FAR superior Aussie ones we’ve been more competitive with the bat at times.

Bowling, yea it hasn’t been a complete disaster, we bowled well in the first innings of the first test but since then? Very hit and miss to put it politely.

Maybe I should say it’s the worst batting performance I can remember then.

Oh mate its horrific no doubt

But the Mitch Johnson tour has me still waking up in cold sweats

Is this the worst ever performance in an Ashes series so far? I think it’s the worst in my memory? Even when they were clearly better in the 90’s we still got the odd score on the board and took it deep on occasions in tests, even if we ultimately lost them.

That first test loss is the biggest fudge up i can think of, to be in (almost) complete control of the test match at lunch on day 2 with 8 wickets in hand, to then lose by close of play was just criminal.
2012/13 was far worse
5-0 and we was lucky to get 0

18 tests without a win in Oz
Wow

Defeat in Adelaide would seal a fourth successive series defeat in Australia and extend a winless run in this country to 18 Tests.

Yea this Aussie side is actually pretty average, but we’re making them look like 70’s/80’s Windies!
To be fair I wouldn't say this Aussie side are average, they have some quality players. And bowling wise Starc, Cummings and Lyon are very good ( and imagine if Hazelwood was fit!) - it's streets ahead of our bowling.....

Starc is having the series of his life so far with bat and ball
Be interesting to see what happens in 4 years as 3/4 of the Aussie team will be retired

I'm hoping Archer could play the same role for us. He's had some very good cameos with the bat....
He has done well this series
Long term though not sure, maybe got himself ready for this series, hopefully loads more in the tank as he has missed a lot of cricket in the last 5 years

Starc’s quality, a hall of famer, but Cummings didn’t play the first 2 tests and Lyon as good as he’s been in the past has seen his better days long behind him. Yet they still tore through us in both games so far.

I don’t think it’s controversial to say this Aussie team is some way off the teams we used to have to face, I’d hate to see what this lot would look like v McGrath, Warne, Gillespie, Mitchell, etc shudders..

I never said it was controversial, just wouldn't say they're average - but certainly agree it's not in the class of Warne et al. But player for player they are a better team IMO....

I think the whole test scene is average nowadays, the short format has changed everything unfortunately.
