Interestingly the reports and talk about lack of out and out strikers in the game is ramping up, it really is an issue in the game. I get sports change but a game where 10 years ago having 2 Strikers was common, we are now entering a phase where we have none

Players like Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole that struggled to get England caps would walk in to this squad. Robbie Fowler, Chris Sutton, Kevin Phillips etc

Yeh, but either or its still a HUGE change. Its now ingrained the game down to youth, literally none coming through either.

Back when teams played 2 strikers they had a lot more chance because (a) two positions and (b) not the sole responsibility on your shoulders.

Note Ashiah Haughton Sinclair is only 15, but has scored over 500 goals for our youth teams and is the next big hope. Scored >40 last year IIRC.

Id love us to have a Rooney/Owen level talent that can come in to the squad as a schoolboy and make a difference.

one school of the modern game requires goals and assists from the forward three and the AM/false 9. All with slightly different skillsets but all hungry for goals. its more about mobility and i prefer this style as you can switch players around the front easily in game and as cover over injuries. Also simplifies youth coaching as 80% of the skillset is common - ball control/movement and pass.

i believe all modern youth academies are heading this way and so should we

Teams have been following the Spanish model for a long time and they rarely produce elite #9’s. Raul, Torres, Morientes the exceptions in the UCL/Prem era.

Ferran Torres I think would disappoint you, he's not an out and out striker. He's more of a versatile forward.

Ferran Torres I think would disappoint you, he's not an out and out striker. He's more of a versatile forward.
