T shirt design program recommendations needed please

Friend of mine wants me to help her design tshirts for a dj/MC act and other customers.

I suggested a specialist program....but wasn't smart enough to know a single one!!

They're made using gemstones so we want a program to do the design work on - added bonus would be being able to print the design onto paper to use as templates but not necessary.

Ability to crop and copy paste photoshop esque would be something I'd appreciate.

Both gimp and gimpshop seem to be photoshop alikes but neither seem to have a t'shirt template. Looking for something more tailor made if you excuse the clothing based metaphor...

Basically a t'shirt template we can either add existing designs to or design straight onto.

I basically need a combination of that and the others - need to be able to design straight to the t'shirt template.
