Spurs-related AFCON and Asia Cup chatter banter

Senegal’s first knockout game will be on Monday 29th January against one of the 3rd place teams from one of three groups.

Sounds very likely they will go through that and then play a QF on Saturday 3rd February.

That’s likely to be the first realistic chance of Senegal getting knocked out and Sarr comes home to resume training ahead of Brighton at home on Saturday 10th February.

There is a chance Mali could end 3rd in their group tomorrow but with 4 points already accumulated they would probably be one of the better placed 3rd place teams and still go through.

Unfortunately they are not in one of the three groups whose 3rd place team would meet Senegal in the next round.

But if Mali end 2nd or 3rd in their group it increases the likelihood of them getting knocked out in their last 16 tie.

This would make Bissouma then likely to be available for the trip to Everton on Saturday 3rd February.

For South Korea it is very much open whether they finish 1st or 2nd in their group.

1st would likely mean a huge derby with Japan and 2nd likely a tie with Saudi Arabia.

Even if they lose that knockout game it would be tight for Son to be in contention for Everton away on the 3rd February. But even if they get through that knockout tie, as long as they then lose the next game he will have all week to prepare for the home game with Brighton on the 10th February.

Watching Bissouma's Mali vs Namibia, it is not high quality. Speculative long passes which result in a scrappy throw or a foul. Over and over. It makes me so thankful for watching Postecoglu's Spurs.

I think I've sussed out Bissouma though. He has very sensitive thighs. For Spurs he always wears size XXXL shorts to hide them away, but here in the African heat, he has tucked them up like hotpants, to have the shortest shorts on the pitch. Very interesting stuff.

90 mins for Bissouma, 0-0, Mali end top.

Sengegal v Ivory Coast on Monday
Mali v Burkina Faso on Tuesday

The winners of those ties then meet in the QF 👀

Malaysia with a second-half turnaround and currently beating Korea 2-1! That puts Korea 3rd in their group...but unfortunately, they would still go through to the next round and play Qatar. Ideally want them finishing 1st or 2nd to play Japan/Saudi Arabia.

F**k sake, finishing third gives them arguably the easiest game?

Sonny scores a 94th minute penalty to give Korea the lead again. Crazy game.

Looks like it'll be South Korea v Japan 🔥

South Korea v Saudi Arabia would be on Tuesday so if they lose, Son could be on the bench for the Everton game on Saturday lunchtime.
