Sick sick world what is wrong with people

In other news
Jon Venables one of the utter vile scum who killed little James Bulger is up for parole again today
Spent only 8yrs in jail and has been caught with child porn twice.
Should rot in jail until he dies but will no doubt be let out, given a new identity and live out his days in comfort in a nice warm far away country

That was a lot more than 8 years ago no??

Never looked into the story despite it being a huge one here but what was his background? I mean wasn't he a child when he committed the crimes? Was he a victim himself? Before anyone says I'm not saying anything about that being a valid reason just genuinely interested. Usually these crimes come from past victims or so was in our social and psychologic studies
He is from Liverpool, there worse then the French.

This is one of the most moving interviews I have ever seen. Dr Izzeldin Abuellaish is a giant of a man with humanity and compassion in his heart that is unrivalled, despite losing so much in this ongoing conflict over the years. I’d urge everyone to take 20 minutes of their time to watch this. It is not Pro-anything or anyone but peace.

Quite a sad back story. He's a little short on the practical, getting to the peace stuff though.

His "cross our fingers and hope some peace happens" plan reminded me a lot of this:

I know he’s an Arab and therefore in your eyes not deserving of a human-level of basic empathy, but ‘quite a sad back story’ is a laughable synopsis of what he’s been through. (And to save us both time, ‘something something empathy is for losers I’m a special little online edgelord’ retort)

He has been an influential, awarded voice for peace and reconciliation in the region and western world, creating dialogue and using his platform for good. I know it may not be as trailblazing as ‘started working for Daddy’s company’, but it’s flippant to assume he should be forthcoming with a detailed, practical peace plan himself to be a positive influence.

I’m also pleasantly surprised to see you reference the great Tim Minchin and unsurprised you would use it out of context.

It's more than a little disingenuous to start hurling insults like that in an attempt to point score. I'm sure you're fully aware he means no more or less to me than anyone else that I don't know.

Not sure what kind of response you're expecting. I'm not going to fall to the floor and wail about it - I'm sure some would, but that's not me.

Maybe the fault isn't his and it's in your description of him. It led me to expect something of substance, rather than some naïve "Can't we all just get along?" attempt at solving the issue.

Oh sweetheart. You sound like the other Gilmore Girl in this thread now, with the same lack of self-awareness. I’m simply reminding you of your prejudices that keep shining through despite your protestations, in a manner that you understand and strikes a nerve.

I didn’t state he was making an attempt at solving the issue you silly little sausage. I shared the interview because I found it very moving and believe it is admirable that he can maintain peace in his heart despite losing 25+ members of his family and counting. The by-product of that is the platform and space he has created towards pulling people in the same direction regardless of ethnicity/race. It was a positive post with no bias that you’ve unfortunately decided to hijack again because you can’t envisage Palestinians/brown people at the same level of humanity.

Still wanting peace is admirable. Still wanting peace is also meaningless.

Israelis have wanted peace for the best part of a century - a fair number of Palestinians too. But wanting peace will do nothing all the time there is a group of religious fundamentalists with their hearts set on the eradication of Israel.

Anyone who truly wants peace should be fully behind the complete and immediate destruction of Hamas, not calling for a ceasefire that only one side will ever honour.

And again, nothing to do with the video I posted.

The difference between you and I is I can wholeheartedly agree with you that Hamas needs to be completely destroyed, but you will always refuse to acknowledge Israel’s part in its creation as an entity. And that despite the current obliteration of Palestine and its civilians coming to an end if that were to happen, Netanyahu and his merry band of far-righters will continue to gaslight, occupy, provoke, oppress, take hostage, steal from and kill (or allow IDF/settlers to kill with impunity) Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Or as you like to call it, 'striving for peace for the last century'. All under the guise of self-defence. And thus create another version of Hamas to use as an excuse for it being ‘impossible’ to create a two-state solution (knowing he doesn’t have to say the quiet bits out loud about Palestine that Hamas openly says about Israel). That said, party members have publicly stated their genocidal tendencies and call for a second Nakba. So peaceful. I won’t reiterate the fact they used similar terminology of ‘river to the sea’ in their original charter because I’d probably get accused of antisemitism or similar.

Peace is a two-way street. Every time someone says Hamas needs to be destroyed and the hostages need to be returned, anyone can retort with Israel needs to recognise Palestine as a state and not continue to steal their land and deny Palestinians their basic rights. That's how terrorist groups form and come into power, then refuse to relinquish that power through democratic process. Both can be correct statements and both are the foundation for peace going forwards.

I could go into much further detail of my opinions, but as @spurspinter1 so accurately put it, you don't have any interest in good faith discussions around topics which don't align to your political beliefs. The saddest part is I know you are able to and have done on many other topics that don't require you to concede you just have an opinion rather than being right. I hold my hands up and admit I reply to you in bad faith at times and use personal insults. However I do so openly, not snidely or in a weasel-like manner to draw out an extreme reaction. You've said yourself in the past it amuses you, so keep getting your kicks as it's your desire and your forum. I'll try and probably will fail to not be urged to respond to your nonsense.

Love Tim thought I would post this re the vile scum in the Catholic church. They got him home eventually then charged & convicted him. Ultimately the federal court overturned his conviction & he ran back to Rome

I thought you were going to post "fudge the Mother fudging Pope" at first - one of my favourites of his. Thanks for posting, haven't seen that one.

Saw him a couple of appearances after that first Edinburgh he did and have loved pretty much everything he's done since.

I'd forgotten until my wife reminded me last night, our first dance at our wedding was to You Grew On Me:

Brilliant song not sure my ex would have let that be our first song. Maybe that's why she is my ex. If you have a spare 30 minutes watch this

'Thinking' is just so upside down sometimes. There are silly rules in life, and the powers that be can be criticised for pettiness or just stubbornly saying 'no that's not allowed'.....and then there is this, mind boggling.

The lengths they go to protect children, but 'parental rights' still trump everything, regardless of a parent's actions or crimes. As I say, upside down. The law needs changing.

Yeah. Israel wanted peace for 3/4 a century. So much so they couldn't resist stepping outside of their internationally agreed areas to do so.

Murdering and raping native brown people along the way. Pushing a violation of international law further and further along each day.

But forget international law. They get a free pass because a holocaust happened thousands of miles away at a time barely anyone one presently alive experienced.

If we don’t remember the holocaust it will happen again.

In the US, anti Jewish hate crime is up almost 500%.

Absolutely nobody is suggesting we should forgot the Holocaust apart from those who are denying it happened in the first place.

I do wonder how something is determined as a hate crime ie does the perpetrator state that their reasoning for attacking someone was because they're Jewish? Or is anytime the victim is considered a minority it's automatically a hate crime?

N.B - I'm not questioning the stats or rise in antisemitic crimes, I just don't know how it's recorded for incidents recorded as hate crimes.

Neither do I to be fair, but I think we are in a really dangerous place right now.
