Why would Split pay his wages- he’s out until the Summer?

This is probably a rare example of a club doing the right thing for a player and his family.

(And frees up some of our medical resources ready for the next crock.)

Yeh been covered off

His return date is June and our last fixture is 19 May. Ange said quite clearly that he'd never be an option for us again.

The move is about him getting fit for the Euros, and also helping the Split dressing room get over the line in their title chase. They are 6 points clear at the top but have played more games. Their rivals Zargreb have won the league for the last 16 or 17 consecutive seasons.
I stand corrected i thought he was back sooner.

A more stylistic fit type option for Porro may be a good change at some point. Emerson is less vital after Dragusin came in as we have a viable RCB option. Still I'm not convinced January is the time to be looking for another right back in addition to what we're seemingly already trying to do.
Agree in general. But i wouldn't want to condemn poor Royal to Saudi, whatever the price. He's a good guy and a decent player, and deserves much better

If they were willing to pay 50m+ I'd say we have to do it. Double the price for a player who doesn't quite match our prime attribute needs is great business. I say this as a fan of Royal, I've been one of the use who have always seen the quality here brings in defensive spaces.

I read we are paying the wages of Ivan and Dier even though they are on loan? Is this the case?

No, Bayern are paying his wages and a loan fee (hence the talk about £3M)

Perisic wages are probably being covered by insurance, to @johnola point, we are just doing the right thing there with the only real upside for us is the freed up slot in squad. We have been a been decent with that in recent times (no fee on Lloris, other examples)

Cool

Seeing as some recent transfers don't suit angeball so well (like Maddison and Richie), and on top of the dross that we have failed to release over the years, I think it's another 2 windows at least to get a suitable 22 playing angeball seamlessly.

A lot will depend on finances as usual...playing in Europe (more games more tv cash?), stadium sponsorships and cash injection (from a third party) will hasten the process but also the quality we bring in. Noted that the club announced losses recently, hopefully the non football activities are pulling their weight in contributing to the bottom line.

On the bright side we seem to have a lot of high potential youngsters and hopefully with more games next season Ange will feel more comfortable using them. Can always loan them out mid season if they don't make the cut.

Since paratici's arrival we seem to be able to find good deals mid season. So I expect it to carry on and expect lange to cast the net wider across Europe.

The goal for next season should be champions league placing. No need to rush to win the league or trophy ASAP.

lost me with your first sentence there

Maddison and Richy suit Ange ball

i think angeball needs these two roles to be on fire in all games.

maddision can do tricks, but he isn't influential like odegaard or modric - controlling the pace and just being effective in initiating attacks. losing the ball here is really dangerous given the number of players we have in attack. a new AM with more influence and control would reduce the risk of turnovers and keep pressure while in possession.

i don't know about richy. old fashioned battering ram that you could be effective in any set up if you really wanted to see it that way. i thought scarlett's cameo in the last game showed how a nippy forward making numberous darting runs is very effective in unsettling the defence and provides another more direct threat (than crossing from the byline) and consequently reduces the oppositions ability to launch attack.

both can fit angeball at a minimum, but if better i think we will see much more improvement to our game .

Maddison fits in perfectly imo. We want to play with risk. Maddison on form at least isn't a big culprit for losing the ball unnecessarily imo. I think the game control and initiating attacks mostly isn't his job in this role. Others are supposed to do most of that. But may be a confusion of how we use those words.

Richarlison I think is a good fit too. Perhaps he can do even more with runs in behind. Mostly he's a good fit, but him being an average at best finisher overall and with real limitations in his link up play means that there's at least the possibility of someone else being even better.

I think @metalgear is moreso trying to say that the quality of the players play and output doesn't match the requirements of the role. I disagree a bit with Maddison as I do think he fits but I agree that ultimately we probably need better than him if we want to say win the league. That's isn't a realistic proposition right now so Mads is fine but we do need real quality competition for him.

Richie I do agree with him, his general play isn't of the required level imo, poor hold up, no runs in behind. Not especially creative, passing is just ok etc. He can do a job but we've seen that Ange doesn't really see him as fist choice. He can do something but yeah I don't think he's the model of striker that Ange actually wants imo.

Thank you.

If i may elaborate on Maddison, he needs to judged maddison across a full season. Before we bought him, he was known for being a streaky player and not not showing up in big games. Recently he has lost the ball too many times for a key player in the centre of midfield. He has to have more presence and impact for us to control the midfield space.
