Road tax by direct debit warning

Bit of a heads up to anyone paying tax by dd.

The Dvla cancelled my direct debit ahead of my mot in January!

Whilst they did send me a letter it did not alert me clearly that I would not be taxed going forward. It appeared to me just to be a reminder to renew my MOT when it expired the following month. I did not get the usual car tax renewal form presumably as I was paying by dd. and had not been told what action I had to take.

I got my mot renewed ahead of its expiry and forgot about it all.

Then got a letter saying I was being fined £40 for not having valid car tax. Pretty poor show.

If any of you chaps pay your car tax by dd consider yourselves forewarned that the Dvla might try and feck you over too.

I am not bothering to get in a conversation with them about this as i have bigger battles to fight right now.

clams

they rolled mine over automatically without any communication, I renewed the MOT the week before it was all due so there is obviously some inconsistency in their system
