What is it about Real Madrid?
In 1996 Real Madrid hired Fabio Capello who won the league but he was sacked after one season
In 1997 Real Madrid hired Jupp Heynckes who duly won then the Champions League but he was sacked after one season because they finished 4th in the league.
In 1999 Vicente Del Bosque took charge and in 4 seasons he won the Champions League twice 2000 and 2002, and two domestic La Liga titles in 2001 and 2003, a Spanish Supercup in 2001, a UEFA Super Cup in 2002, the Intercontinental Cup in 2002 as well as finishing in the last four of the UEFA Champions League every year he was in charge. They then sacked him the day after he won his second La Liga. I remember hearing that his image was not "sexy" enough to manage the Galacticos.
Since then those ingrates have struggled, strived and thank goodness failed to win the "cup with the big ears" and long may it continue
In 2006 they hired Fabio Cappello, he again won the title and again was sacked after 1 season
Looking at how they are run if I were a top player I would not run to play for Madrid. Players like Sneijder and Robben get tapped up, chased, signed and spat out of their system on a whim. How ironic that since being kicked out Sneijer has won the treble (including the CL) while Robben can complete the treble today.
I also read AVB is on their short list in case they do get Carlo Ancelotti, but based on the above why would you want to go there. No matter what you win you will probably get the sack anyway.
