Vorm 6 - bungled take from a corner could so easily have cost us a trip to Wembley

Walker 6 - what he lacks in finesse he makes up for in speed and sheer physical presence
Dier 6 - looked a little hesitant at times
Verts 7 - risked a sending off for that throat-grab at the death
Davies 5 - another so-so performance

Stambouli 7 - further consolidated his place at CM tonight
Mason 6 - some great tackles and on another night might have grabbed a brace
Dembele 7 - showing great verve and positivity from mid nowadays

Lamela 5 - put in the effort and created a couple of openings but too often attempted to beat three rather than make the obvious pass
Eriksen 8 - two dazzling pieces of magic eclipsed a plethora of misplaced passes

Kane 8 - had to settle for a winning assist but unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself

Vorm 5 - some shaky moments
Walker 5 some rash challenges and looked uncomfortable.
Dier 6 ok performance but weak on the goals
Verts 6 looked comfortable for 75 minutes, but a bit wobbly thereafter
Davies 4 was owned in both games by his winger. Really poor. Rose next time.
Lamela 5 ran around a lot but too ponderous when he gets his chance to shine
Mason 6 some good late runs let down by poor control at the end
Stambouli 7 good game, for once he wasn't exposed by his lack of pace
Dembele 8 Simply immense. Great game. His best for a long time.
Eriksen 8 Quiet game but worked hard and two moments of sheer magic
Kane 7 Made some great runs but sometimes chose the wrong options

Poorlinho 4 the momentum changed when he replaced Dembele. Upset our balance
Townsend 4 achieved absolutely nothing.

Poch 5 good initial team with Dembele in an advanced role. Really poor subs though and nearly turned the tide against us until Eriksens late déjà vu goal.

Walker was good, but should have done a lot better for both their goals.

Dier and Vertonghen our weak spot. Whenever they got into dangerous positions it was like a hot knife through butter.

Davies was okay.

Stambouli and Mason were good.

Eriksen was terrible apart from the goals, no more than a 6 for him.

Dembele was a mixed bag, certainly not an excellent performance.

Lamela was good, a natural fit for our pressing game. Wins back the ball so many times.

Kane. MOTM, but not getting any luck in front of goal.

Poch - Paulinho in midfield and Mason further forward? No, just no.

Townsend - waste of space. Get rid, release him if necessary.
 
@ Jordinho : Agree Eriksen had a decidedly indifferent game apart from his goals but you rate him a six?

So you don't think that those two magical moments that so dramatically affected the outcome of the game should uplift his rating? You might as well say Greaves was rubbish because he never did much in a game other than score the vital winner.

You mean apart from scoring two goals, one of them a screamer and saving our blushes? My word!!

Short on options really. Paulinho, Townsend and Rose the closest to realistic midfield options, the last two would probably mean moving Eriksen into the centre. If Dembele had to come off (seems at least somewhat likely) it makes quite a bit of sense to me at least. Mason looked to be tiring a bit and had a yellow card. At least one situation stands out in my memory where he was just turned because he couldn't risk putting in the tackle and he struggled to keep up. Getting him further forward and Paulinho in seems like the most sensible option. Other than moving a defender up to midfield and putting in Fazio (seems over the top to me) there's weren't much else to do.

I also didn't see this shift become prominent until Townsend came on. Before that, it looked pretty much like-for-like...watching their two goals again, it is unequivocal that Townsend's lack of tracking cost us each time.
 
Vorm - 6 not his best night but faultless for goals
Walker 7 pretty good only threat down right
Vertonghen 5.5 shaky at vital moments
Dier 5.5 same as Verts
Mason 7 very good imo game changed when he got displaced
Dembele 7 his best game in awhile
Eriksen 8 Dynamo
Lamela 5 poor picked wrong options
Kane 7 he's our engine
