No one forced him to come on loan (as far as we know), so at that point it was down to him to perform and he failed to do that. Yes could he have been managed better, but ultimately I think the failure has to fall at his own feet.

Any chance we can move this to the former player thread or general section along with the Lankshear and Solomon posts?

Maybe make a former player section so its easier to navigate?
