Putin & Russia

It’s not good, might get very bad.

Further destabilising the region, harder to keep communication going.

Good for Ukraine short term. But any intervention aim should be to bring about peace and stability. Longer-term we could be seeing the region turn into a bigger mess.

I wonder what the story is with Wagner. Like everyone he knows Russia is not protected at the moment with forces focused on Ukraine. But he is also a patriot, ostensibly trying to win the war for Russia too. I wonder if he has been nobbled by the CIA, promised support if he turns.

Is this a good or bad thing what is happening currently ??
If it weakens Putins position but he holds onto power and is forced to retreat from Ukraine then it's probably good. If he's ousted GHod knows what will happen and who will eventually end up in power, could be worse than Putin.

If Russia has to commit some of their drunken, useless troops to defend against their good ones then it increases Ukraine's chances of winning all their territory back.

Once that's done we'll be able to fast track them into NATO and this won't happen again.

Does Ukraine use Russian turmoil to commit more of its reserves to attack while Russia is distracted? Morale of Russian troops can't be good.

Or...is this a big bluff by two Russian friends, to draw Ukraine's best troops and equipment out? It doesn't seem likely. More likely is Prigozhin's power went to his head, and maybe he also knew his position was already under threat from Putin. We will know if this is the case because Prigozhin will be assignated by the FSB if it the case.

A standard tactic of secret services is to turn heads, whisper things into people's ears. Try to turn important people against the enemy. So you do wonder what else went on with Prigozhin. Was he part of a winder coup that didn't materialise? Was he influenced, told by the CIA that Putin had plans to take him out, so he may as well make a stand? Who knows what this odd episode is all about.

Doesn’t make much sense, how does this guy not end up dead?
He may well end up dead, or one of them will. I don't think this is over. This action by Wagner has pierced Putin's veil of invincibility, and usually for a strong man dictator that is the beginning of the end. Maybe not this week but he won't be president for much longer, would be my guess.

It's not just about Ukraine, you could get someone even more warlike and unstable than Putin in charge. Would make things even worse than they are now. Think the best outcome would be if there is no clear one power in charge and it's more a group that controls power so the worst elements are reigned in.

You may get someone worse than Putin. That may happen. But in the patheon of clams Putin is easily in the top 10. He is directly responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and countless brutal war crimes. He blew up his own people to bolster his reputation when his poll numbers were in the single digits.
He is viewed as some kind of horrible but stable despot. You only think that because of the bizzare reputation washing that was still pervasive in western media until very recently. Sure Prigozhin is a heinous monster but he is still a choir boy compared to Putin.

Where's his replacement going to attack?

It won't be Ukraine - if anyone in NATO has any sense, they'll be fast tracked as members as soon as the conflict is over. It won't be Finland, Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania - Russia wouldn't last 5 minutes. They keep giving Belarus reacharounds so it won't be them.

China? North Korea? Get me the popcorn....
