It needs to go back to 32 teams, and those clowns at FIFA actually want to extend it to 64 teams which would easily make it a 6/7 week tournament.

I liked the 48 team format and seeing a few of the smaller nations get involved - no one really disgraced themselves.

Looking at the World Cup in isolation I wouldn’t disagree with that, the problem is the length when taking the domestic seasons into account, it was 5 and a half weeks, 32 teams are usually around 4 weeks, go up to 64 and your adding another 7-10 days on top again, the players who reached the last weekend if it was a 32 team tournament would have likely be returning to training next week.
