Pre Season 2017

Couldn't tell on the replays there what happened to the SPurs defender in the box who was left on the floor.

Quite the finish to the game!

Interesting game. The refereeing made it a win for Roma but there were some lessons there.

Our young players all showed some moments of quality but also some naivety. We know Winks is ready but I don't think the others are. The debate about whether they would benefit from going on loan or learning with Poch is still inconclusive. I think CCV, Onomah and Walker-Peters would benefit from loans but that would leave us short, as judging by Levy's comments we don't intend to spend on more established players.

I think we still need a couple of game changers. The Striker cover and a tricky, pacy dribbler. The Dembeles remain my choices but unlikely to happen.

The last goal exemplified that we will miss Walker, so concede more goals but Tripppier's better quality going forward might be enough to keep us in contention.

I am not sure we have the squad to compete on all fronts seriously, even if we don't have many injuries as fatigue will be a factor.

That would leave us short even if keep them around, then, surely? Having players unready for top-flight competition would leave us at a disadvantage too - maybe not as much as not having *any* players to call on, but that's still a suboptimal solution.

CCV desperately needs a loan - he looks like Caulker at the moment.

Onamah needs a loan now, I can't see how it's helping his progress not playing?

Under was always going to score! Not that it matters

Just seen the highligts, and judging from that it didn't look a deserved loss. The first Roma goal was never a penalty, Kane should definitely had a penalty, and the last Roma goal was a stone wall free-kick for Wimmer. He was kicked and hooked in the area by the goalscorer. Good goal by Janssen, magnificently set up by Nkoudou! With that much pace and delivery like that, surely he can be useful for us?

I have a feeling this season we will see a lot more from him and he will add something to the team. Haven't seen the highlights but he has talent and with a full pre-season under his belt he could be decent. Didn't we faff about for ages in pre-season trying to sign him so he didnt take part until late on?

Edit - just seen that we signed him on 31st August 2016 so no pre-season at all and a few weeks into the season.

A lot of players looked very rusty in the first half. Some ghastly errors from Toby too. Hopefully it's just pre-season lack of concentration.

I thought CCV looked OK on the right side of a back three. Dier doesn't look as comfortable in midfield as he did a couple of seasons ago. Lack of playing time in the position, perhaps?

Winksy is looking more and more like a poor man's Modric, which is not all that bad at this stage in his career. Hopefully he'll push on to be the real deal.

Onomah also looks like he'd be more comfortable and effective playing deeper. I'm hoping to see him in that role in one of the upcoming matches.

My big concern was how easily Roma passed around our press, regardless of the players they had on the field. I don't know if this can be improved by our pressing, or if technical teams will always be able to pass it around no matter what.

Good game to watch, nevertheless. Very good second half by us and unlucky to lose, what with the horrible refereeing decisions.

Oh, and also good to see the fire in the lads, even though it was a preseason friendly. Definitely not the Spurs of old with the soft underbelly! Notice how none of our players helps up opponents, or apologizes for a foul? Keep that meanness!

Some novel officialising today.

Good fun 'friendly'
Liked Anthony Georgiou

I watched the full game ...

Out of the "non-first 11" Georgiou definitely impressed the most of anyone over first two games. Pace, willing to go past his man, involved. Very interesting that Poch gave him the full 90 mins. Should he play anything like that against City I could easily see him jumping over Josh and some of last season's fringe.

Roma was hanging on at points in 2nd half, back to wall type defending, novel officiating is one way of looking at it.

Georgiou has gone through a growth spurt since the last time I saw him a year or so ago. He was very impressive against Roma. Good luck to the lad.
