The RNLI thing is spectacularly imbecilic. All someone has to do, is take along a VHF radio, push a distress button or make a call and an amazing charitable, volunteer-led service risk their lives to support and assist. It is not like they are running forking pleasure cruises from Dordogne to Hayling Island. Having launched MV Yvonne (inherited name...) a fortnight back down at Hayling Island for the first time in 44 years, I was delighted we were not only doing it in waters where I could almost stand up but knowing that if things went sideways quickly, we have such amazing resources available. Now I think about it... Inflatable speedboat... South Coast... Sumup terminal... increasing energy bills... 😏

If I've been born, lived and worked in my country and I've nothing of note to complain about....and made a massive success of myself, I'd just pay my way (ie taxes) and not really think about it.

He's getting potentially some kind of 'flat rate' in Greece but I'm sure he should have 'officed up' there or somewhere else with favourable tax schemes over the years, but hasn't, so it could be another reason?
 
Greek Taxation was best explained to me on a visit to Lindos in Rhodes a decade or so back. As we approached the final descent at the top of the town, the police were blocking the road. They allowed us through on our Quadbike but they had stopped a couple of other vehicles, whose occupants, looked official and quite animated. I was told the police had stopped the taxman at the top of the hill to delay them. This gave all the businesses down the hill on the strip, time to 'get the other set of books out'. :cool:

For all the stick he sometimes gets, I always think Paul McCartney is a good example of how to behave if you do well in life. Always paid full UK taxes. Sent all his kids to the local state school.

Probably got some insight in to what’s coming in TN e budget.

He has been doing that and won’t be moving forward. So it’s a £330M hole to fill.

Paying taxes. Rokos is not your standard billionaire tax dodger where you can say good riddance. His departure is more than a rounding error.

He has been one of the largest tax payers in the country of over 2 decades and only now has he come to the decision to leave. Not only his personal income tax but a fair chunk of the corporation tax will be off the books as well.

Oh...I get all that.

Im just wondering, if you are at his level of wealth....at what point the 'cost' of being wealthy dissipates into irrelevance, and less money-centric values kick in.

(On a sidenote, I see he owns 'Tottenham House' in Wiltshire, and a fine pile it is too.
Surely no-one buys that without being fully COYS??)
