Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I don’t know what a European wide right wing movement looks like like but it is no more welcome to me than the protectionist socialist structure we left.

Imagine the current flap if we were still in it though lol.

So anonymous source 'j' has made a claim but there is no evidence or clarification yet, just a headline. It may be be true. It may not be true. There is absolutely nothing in the lbc or GBeebies versions that make this anything more than gossip at the moment.

We don't know who 'j' is, we don't actually know if 'j' exists. And as Marty says, there seems to no confirmation if these spurious asylum claims are positively processed or rejected.

Going by the headline alone its not really a shock BUT without being able to read on how many of those that are false are getting through the net? I imagine thats the more important stat

In the year ending June 2026, the UK detected 38,086 arrivals via illegal entry routes, including about 33,000 small-boat arrivals.

The government recorded 3,427 returns of people who had arrived by small boat in that 12-month period.

So 90% remain in the UK.

Under what basis and status? Are all 90% granted asylum are are they still under process etc?

About half are granted asylum or have some form of protected status which allows them to legally remain.

The 5% return. The rest are either in a process of appeal or just remain illegally. I couldn’t find exact figures of how many are in the appeal process vs initial asylum claim. There are 4 levels of appeal. The 1st level wait time is 67 weeks. Could not find the wait time for the other 3.
