Yes, Restore is ridiculously extreme. Policy proposals that would not have seen the light of day not that long ago, but now are shamelessly thrust into the public discourse by a credulous/complicit media. But those on the right usually stay on the right. Labour (and the democrats) have learned the hard way that tacking right on certain issues to appease right-wing nuts is a vote loser from their own base. It gains negligible amounts of converts and drives their own core voters elsewhere. Staying true to your ideals is the way, and those on the right know this lesson better than those on the other side. Do you see Reform or Restore throwing a few left-wing policies on their manifesto to win lefties? No fudging way would they, as it would drive their base (more) rabid.

The reason the right won't entertain pandering to voters from the other side is they operate in a Project 25 type doctrine way. Their beliefs are unwavering.

Conversely any politician close to the centre can eyeball stuff over the otherside of the centre line and find it palatable, if they think it'll gather voters. That said, that's not a game plan for current day politics.

As politics gets more divisive, as it increasingly is now, then the centrist approach will always fail. Those politicians who pretend that this is the way back to normality are not learning the lessons of history.

It a bizarre conundrum....as slightly leaning one way or the other from the centre has more chance of consensus politics. And I'm sure a massive chunk of people fall into that band ....but, as you say, thats not where we are at the moment, so blood on the streets, thousands of lives lost, and a hours upon hours of time wasted on basically nastiness is the era we have to work thru.

TBH and not to be too hyperbolic, this is what the end kinda looks like for me. We are in a period where extremism is now the ruling power in the world. people are commanded by their belief in said extremism which is why now we so so many changes in leadership in government. The interesting cross over to the other thread plays its part too, the distrust in the world fuelled by lies and half truths which become truths to some, the polarisation of the classes and cultures, we are so close to someone lighting the touch paper in something catastrophic, what that looks like I don't know but something will happen in the next 5 years that will be hugely significant and change society for a long time IMO

Being in hospitality and travel I have to say London lags so far behind in the late night economy compared to abroad. The strict rullings and licencing really kills off potential. Yes you can find late places but compared to pre 11pm its ridiculous.
