Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Many voters in these local elections voted based on a national mandates. To a lot it was a sending a message about Starmer. You also had many voting Green based on Gaza.

That’s not what local council elections are for.

Nobody should have done that.

Being in the franchise comes with a responsibility to engage in the process correctly.

Yeh, I get it, and I understand to a point. I do believe people are not fully genuine in their voting intentions past immigration. Im going to be keen to see how people react when other policy and politics impact their life, there is more playing into the decline of the standards of living in the UK than immigration.....see Iran and Ukraine for 2 of the major issues impacting here

I think there is a massive under appreciation of what comes with local grass roots council politics. Thats not me stating here, but in general.

Its hard work and alot of the good councilors who work hard lobbying for better standards will have been needlessly flushed out.

I know a couple who spend hours in groups round the community engaging with elderly, social care groups etc. I dont doubt there will be good councilors that come out of this for Reform but I do wonder how many were token to send a message

Mahmood is clearly the smartest person in the room. Which means the unions will block her.

Streeting understands economics. Which means the party will block him.

Anyone else of any standing has just had their arses handed to them by extremists in their own back yards and would have to run to a safe seat to stand.

So it'll be Burnham, who thinks the markets don't matter and there's a magic money tree.

Yay.

If they don't decide which way they want to go they are done. Centrism currently is dead and buried.

I agree with all of that. Although I do like Zia Yusif i do find myself engaging with his lobbying. But that’s all it is, that’s all that what all politicians do… just lobby for the vote and then realise that they cannot do anything that is promised.

I think the reform vote is mostly down to the infamous lack of transparency in the Pakistani rape gangs, and the lack of control on immigration thereafter. People genuinely have had enough and have voted with their feet.

On the flip side none of reforms economic numbers make sense. I think we are in for a long term of cuts and high taxes. Either with reform or the government thereafter.

I can’t even see how reform are going to stop the boats or send illegals back. They speak a good game and that’s what why they have got a swing.

Sounds like a charming chap.
Wonder what the list of Labour/Tory wronguns looks like ???
Let's be honest all parties are basically made up of 90% self-serving scumbags with a few good eggs who actually care

What makes me question is no one on this forum as of yet can actually address the real fact that Reform have gone from 2 councillors to nearly 1,500 whilst Labour have lost nearly 1,500. How and why has this happened? Is anyone surprised? I am not.

While the left happy bunch have pushed their stupidity and kept pushing and pushing they finally got a reaction, a strong one of that.

It's like no one actually wants to acknowledge the numbers? Rather just to say it’s down to racism without looking beyond the simpleton response. That’s not washing anymore is it?

Labour/Tories are finding out the hard way, the greens are incompetent and we are left with Reform crushing it. It’s actually unbelievable. Tell me how you really feel.

I think you are being disingenuous here mate, I and other are asking the question why?? I have personally panned labour, many have said Starmer needs to go. I get the victory lap and well deserved, but lets at least be honest here if we are encouraging rightful dialogue

You yourself answered with real class to a post I had, which I appreciate, so I think this post is now being purposely antagonistic and maybe with some reason.

But I do believe some are asking relevant questions

No my friend I’m genuinely asking. Out of interest I don’t vote and am not partial to Reform. I’m actually gobsmacked they actually are proving everyone wrong.

Genuinely not trying to get a reaction, not gloating, nothing.

My personal views are on the forum but in summary, I think the general population were just pushed and pushed, ignored and have snapped back

Fair and if honest taken.

Appreciate the response

No I think it’s over 18 months.i was actually posting the second tweet but didn’t realise it was linked to the first.

I mean I am willing to give people the benefit of the protest vote and all else. But my GHod has that party had alot of racsism/islamaphobia and Antisemitism running through it. I like the fact they are acting on it, but surely they need to vet there cnuts abit better
