Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I hear you mate. And it's awful that any community feels that way. It's for politicians to speak truth to power rather than just seek to get more votes.

I don't even think they care about votes. They just don't care as much when Muslims are attacked compared to anyone from another faith. What other reason is there?

Interestingly it was due to become a mosque, so that seems a weird point to omit

What are you trying to imply here mate? I've been past this building many times when I go to Whitechapel to run mentoring sessions for young adults. The building has hebrew writing on the facade and big star of David over the doorway.

I know the building, I grew up in the area.

I am not implying anything, I have made a statement, I think that its strange to omit the part where the building has recently been in negotiation and planning to become a mosque. Edit: There is actually an agreement and deposit in place

I think its likely helpful to the now large Muslim community in Tower Hamlets to include that fact to stop the mindless comments on social media about who attacked the building. Given its hugely unlikely that Muslims would burn something that was about to become a community asset, it might just be the sensible thing to report.

I would imagine that whatever idiot/idiots attempted arson on this building did so because of the large, prominent Star of David that is above the door. Could be far right jew haters or could be far left jew haters - there are enough idiots to go round on both sides.

Which I dont and havent disputed, I never said it was attacked because it was Muslim owned. The point I am making that as it is under Muslim ownership it would have been helpful to said local muslim community for that to be made known, so that the lazy and dangerous rhetoric around Tower Hamlets doesnt needlessly mean the finger is pointed at them. I dont think thats an outrageous expectation

If I had a free bet then my money would be on the far left jew haters.... They have been really emboldened with their jew hatred in recent times.

Or it was some roundabout painter who knew it was becoming a mosque and decided to attack it. You see. Anyone can make up a scenario painting the people we dislike as the bad guys.

Here's a stat. 27 mosque attacks in the last year. 21 synagogue attacks in the last year. 2 communities being pitted against each other but both under siege by extremists.

You do know there have been more attacks on mosques since October 2023 than there have been on synagogues? Obviously there are more mosques because there are more Muslims but the raw number of attacks is significantly greater of mosques.

So it could be for either or both reasons.

edit: just seen @LutonSpurs post basically saying the same thing.

Its actually always a small fear in the back of your mind when you go Friday prayers.

You don't even have to go far back when the flag shaggers attacked Southport mosque due to online rumours. People shared the lie on here. You can still see the posts!

Could've been. Though I expect they would've gone and attacked an actual mosque as opposed to a building with a star of David on it.

I dislike both the far left and the far right as bad guys. Whichever bunch did this are scumbags.

As to your stat.... That is 48 attacks too many. The far left and far right in this country are ripping it apart!

Very fair.
