Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

So much time/effort/focus being spent on a very small part of a bigger issue.
Driven by media and optics.

Has there been much talk of other solutions, not just channel crossers, but overall net immigration?
Abolishing all low skilled visas is the golden ticket. Only allow immigration for asylum, spouses and highly skilled.

But our corporate overlords would never allow their cheap labour to dry up. Imagine if they had to invest in skills and training

Back to war torn Sudan, Syria, back to oppression in Afghanistan, back to persecution in Iraq, Iran Bangladesh, Nigeria, back to enforced unending national service in Enitrea, back to other despotic regimes.
Shame on all those privileged beach goers.
Do you ever think of the thousands they have paid the smugglers to get them axross, living in poverty, terrible places but manage to find a lot of cash to get to the promised land

Not everyone who is fleeing war or persecution is necessarily totally poverty-stricken.

Those that don't have the money themselves may borrow it from family or friends - or worse from those involved in their trafficking.

Why do i need to call out the blatant bigotry in society? You already go on about it. So i can either come in this thread and just join in with the jolly old boys club all nodding along and going "oh yes, terrible terrible, tut tut" or i can throw a few alternative takes in for balance.
Couldn't be any more disingenuous if you tried

You have zero issue enhancing right wing rhetoric when it's posted on here.

But yeh, you are some kind of social commentary "disrupter".....

They might be taxing, but they arent spending. Infrastructure and services are completely hollowed out. All the natural assets of a state were pawned off by Thatcher, Major and Blair. So now we are just scraping together what we can to stave off the repo-men. That's not traditional spending/investment
I'm not sure where you think the money is going then. I know we can all point to areas of spending where we think there's waste, but this govt (and the previous) have created the highest tax burden since the immediate years after WWII. That money is being spent.

Both major parties had an opportunity recently to begin to reduce that spending, but both are too preoccupied with party politics to do anything real about it.

There's a bit of a problem there in terms of benefit to the taxpayer.

What if someone wishes to bring a spouse but will not allow their spouse to work? That (roughly) £35k salary that makes a person a net contributor to society then becomes £70k. Not many immigrants will have a starting salary of £70k.

Who would have guessed that The Judaean People’s Front would have fallen out with The People’s Front of Judaea?

Sounds like she was trying to do a runner with a load of money.

Yesterday she sent out an email to all members asking for £5 a month to contribute to the party. It was from a different domain name to the one the party runs and nobody else had signed off on it

Debt repayment. Private sector care homes. And an NHS that focuses on cure/drugs, rather than prevention/social prescribing.

But if we still had our assets like land, water, infrastructure, we'd be able to use the profits of those to fund state spending; whereas now all that leaks out to US pension funds and the Chinese government

Those cases arent about economics, they are about humanity

It depends whether you think the gov are on a tax and spend model or a spend and tax model.

Agree with your second paragraph

Not saying that at all. I'm saying i don't need to call out anything to have a valid perspective. And i certainly don't need to repeat points continuously made by other posters.
