Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

EU only makes up just over 10% of University students currently. Top 3 are China, India and Nigeria. It may be the final straw but hardly the root cause of Universities going bankrupt.

When 10% of students currently pay £38k. And instead could suddenly pay £9k. Yet they cost £12k. That's massive.

It's a sudden £8.7b annual black hole in finances (£29k x 300k students)!

There are only 75,000 EU students (not 300k) at UK universities currently (23/24 figures). Even at pre=Brexit peak EU students were only 125,000 so not sure where you are getting your 300,000 from.

So that reduces your black hole by more than 2/3rds, so it is approximately £3bn from an annual budget of £48bn, important, possibly fatal for some Universities, but again, the actual issue is the overall funding model rather than this issue individually.

The non-EU students bring in about £26 bn. The rest of funding presumably comes from Central government and grants and foundations, and portfolios.

What on earth is this deal.

We should be telling the Europeans they are on their own dealing with Russia, which danger they have bought upon themselves, that their problems are their own, and to leave our fish alone.

Bunch of perverts.
How do you work that one out?

Which way do were the gas pipelines running again? Then have a think what was going the other way.

And why the hell did they leave themselves so vulnerable?
Around the time the war started the EU got appx 38% gas from Russia and Norway equally.
There is always going to be a vulnerability in any supply relationship.
Really don't get how you turn that into withdrawing bilateral support for the war on Ukraine. Does your position include non EU allies?
Re; leaving our fish alone - the fish we fish are the ones we don't eat....so we kinda need the EU do the opposite.

No my position is that we should value every single part of our contribution to the defence of Europe and extract value for it.

Or withdraw it.

Does it really matter to us if France and Germany and the many ‘neutral’ states in Europe ended up with puppet governments of a foreign power like Russia- more fool them.

It's very rare I hit this point, but that post is so stupid and devoid of understanding of history, politics and economics, that it genuinely isn't worth responding to with anything other than utter contempt.

The most worrying thing is, you get to vote....

I know people get sucked into massive party politics and politics in itself is cynical, but surely you want governments who make mistakes and then fix them even if its a u-turn, rather than die on a hill?

If the public win, who cares if its a vote saver?

Terrible decision though. Taxes shouldn't be used to pay Big Oil and Gas's profits. They should have just introduced a price cap on bills instead.

Depends how much blood your family wasted on those selfish clams in the last hundred years. And how much was let by them too

You might have a recent history of a few years, but there is a looonngg history you need to think about.

Can I ask why reporters are not digging in more as to why 3 young foreign men have burned and set fire to property owned by the prime minister.

Seems very odd, I mean he is the prime minister and we are not asking questions as to why he is being targeted. Is it terror what are the reasons?

I know they’ve been arrested. Have they been charged? (I’m a bit behind with news at the moment). Just thinking at some point it becomes sub judice to report on possible motives etc if someone had been charged.

Does not stop the press reporting on the motives or trends on other stories where the might be criminal prosecutions.

I mean the prime ministers properties were attacked. Does not matter your political view that is wrong.

But have not seen or heard anyone bringing up whether politicians have the correct level of protection or no talking heads discussing why people go to such extreme lengths. It's odd very odd.

I just thought there might be a legal reason for it. If not then yes I agree it’s all a bit odd

So the EU after the recent Strasbourg press conference now want to make the criticism of migration a criminal offence and media organisations that criticise it can be shut down.

Search out the video yourselves if you don't believe me. I could post a clip of it but loads of you moan when people post things from certain social media sources, behaving like the EU who clearly don't like anyone who has a different view to them.

I feel quite smug that what I always said about the EU has come to pass. The sad thing is that with the way they behave, the thing they were set up to try to stop (conflict in Europe) is more likely to happen because of their totalitarian world view. The only ones who can defend it are the ones brain washed by decades of far left propaganda.

What is happening to Europe is quite chilling and that so many on here still try to defend it rather them a take a centrist common sense approach to it leaves me concerned for the future. Because things having gone so far to the left means that the things will swing to far to the right. Why people could not just take a centrist view I don't know.

Would like to ask people on here the ones in love with the EU as so many seem to be what your views are now that people are not allowed to criticise a policy of government without it being classed hate speech?????

Post the link. That's the purpose of free speech and the purpose of an opinion - to be open with the information and to scrutiny.
I would be very interested to see the story, because if it is how you describe then it is very concerning, and has echoes of what the US are doing.
There is very little justified scope for shutting down legitimate media agencies.

I have googled the term's you've used and can only find references to the Chair of The European Council warning against politicising the ECHR, and a group critical of new EU laws (The Facilitors Package) that are targeted against people smugglers and those engaged in facilitating irregular immigration.
