Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

They have been bailed, slap on the wrist incoming
That's ridiculous your bail laws should be tightened. These scumbags should be behind bars until they have seen a magistrate. let him or her decide whether they get to walk the streets. I'd hope the magistrate wouldn't be as lenient as the police.

I don’t advocate violence but all of my children are in some sort of self defence classes. You can’t trust the police, the public these days. What terrible times that we live in. There used to be a bit of dignity where if there was a fight you would not have to live in fear of being knifed or jumped or even worse getting no justice.

glad to here your kids are learning self defence i hope they never have to use it. if you want to build trust in the police make really tough bail laws & then make magistrates and judges give stiffer sentences for violent assaults & knife crime. In NSW the reasons for police bail are getting smaller you commit a serious crime like violent assault good chance you won't get bail. In 1997 they built a prison just for people on remand. We also have to educate or kids at school & at home violence is never the answer. if they hear it enough maybe it gets through.

Sorry, deviation from topic. Was chatting to a woman recently who was taking self defence classes and she said the instructor had told them if they were attacked, or felt threatened, not to shout 'help', but to shout 'fire'. As people are more likely to react to their house, car etc. being on fire than to someone who might be in distress.
What a sad indictment of where we are.

My Mum told my sister that when she was a kid that was 50 odd years ago. Good to see its still being used

At our school we had one lunatic who was a knife obsessive - who had been expelled from elsewhere previously- a genuine psychopath -and came to our school armed with a switchblade.

Obviously several of the tougher kids decided they had no choice but to do the same. Honestly don’t think they were wrong.

But the thing is that kid should never have been in with the main pool. To this day I wonder who decided it would be a good idea.

What I am saying is once one kid is known to carry a knife there must be a flood of messaging and searches to prevent this sort of defensive spreading.

Unfortunately that boy went on to murder several people and is serving a lifetime tariff. He swiped at someone’s neck at school just missing it and was kicked out after four months of his reign of terror - and it was absolute terror.

It’s those kids that need to be identified and isolated.

Those kids need to be identified and helped and provided with safety and care. Isolation, yes to start. No argument. But there has to be a way to re-integrate them in to law abiding society.

Jeez...that's so impactful for the kids and parents.

I think that's a good example of the increase in the police knife figures.
Others start carrying because they feel threatened or because it's 'cool' or the 'tough guy' routine or such like.

We're running out of protest votes, what happens if Reform get in and shock horror they can't (or more likely won't) fix the issues.
Where do you put your x next.
It slightly annoying (to me) that politics has started to move in some extreme directions as it, whether I want it to or not, has moved into my periphery.

Otherwise it's completely on 'ignore'. For years, on ignore. It serves no purpose for me to give it any attention or time. For the last 30 years there was very little difference between parties and elements that may effect me shifted minimally within small margins.

I've never thought once about what the Government can do for me (or should be doing) .....it's always been what I can do for myself.
