I am not saying Royal can be a RWB (he is clearly not going to be) but on a couple of occasions he made the ‘right’ move off Kulu and was well ahead of him waiting to receive the pass, most notably towards the end of the match when Kane unwittingly found himself deep left transitioning from defensive duties and was thus able to find Kulu early. It is why I believe our main chance of getting top 4 lies in being able to switch Kane not just deeper but into deeper areas where the space is in order to either get his creativity or free up the middle for others to take (in such instance I see Romero being able to carry the ball 20-30 yards as well as PEH before finding Son and either Bergy or if on the pitch at that stage, Bergwijn. Kane HAS been dropping deep but in a fairly straight line which simply clogs the middle and forces the ball to our rather ineffective deliverers out wide. If HE drifted out there and deeper, then I think it opens up a few possibilites.
I personally only see one team trying to do a ‘Brighton’ on us, and that is Burnley. Brentford? I felt we had enough of the ball, and enough space on the pitch, to find a way through far earlier. Alas, form is off for a couple of players and the automations do mess with cuff-movement. I hope Conte gives Kane full license to do what HE needs to do within the structure around him if there’s 20-25 mins to go in a tight game. He is our golden shot, best passer, best vision. Let’s use him and make his shoulders bear the weight.
