Pau Lopez

We're all assuming we have an option to buy him....however has anyone seen/heard anything which confirms this?

According to the blurb the club put out, he played 93% of the available minutes for Espanyol last season. You might find he's the one sat on the bench when Hugo is back. Maybe a little harsh on Vorm has he has played really well this season but I think Poch is Ruthless.

If Vorm plays as well as he has in the last two, Hugo will be on the bench.

That's what I don't get about this. He's 21, regular starter for his team, then he joins a team, on loan, where he'll most likely won't play a lot. League cup games, most probably.

By all means though, if he's better than vorm, I'm happy. :)

Agree - I also find it odd that we havent just signed him. Poch obviously knows him well enough. Not clear what a loan achieves

It allows us to send McGee out on loan to get some important game time and still have a backup keeper.

Perhaps the club see McGee as our replacement for Lloris and don't want to spend money on a 3rd choice keeper if it's only for a season.

None of that makes sense to me... I think Lloris has intimated OR we suspect, that he will go next summer after giving us many years of service and winning nothing... so we have brought in a real prospect to properly suss out if he is the next big thing. If he is, great. If not, we go for someone else like the Stoke keeper. Maybe.

I have a feeling it was Vorm on the way out until Lloris' injury.

This doesn't sound like he's expecting to be gone for jsut a few months.

"Several circumstances meant I could not have said goodbye as I would have liked," the 21-year-old explained in a post published on Espanyol's website.

"Firstly, it was my decision alone to leave the club. The manager and board told me they did not wish for me to leave, but I took the decision.

"Secondly, it was a personal decision to move on as I believe it will enhance my professional career and allow me to keep improving.

"I also want to thank the fans who have stuck with me through the bad times and the good, offering words of comfort and encouragement."

The Spanish Under 21 goalkeeper only made his debut for the club in February 2015, but established himself in the team after Kiko Casilla's departure to Real Madrid.

"Espanyol has been my home for eight years and will continue to be so in my head," he continued.

"Fans can be sure that, no matter what happens in the future, this club will stay in my heart."

Shrewd move all round.
Two or three years working alongside Hugo should teach him a thing or two and make him ready to take over when the time is right.
Good goalkeepers are hard to come by. Specialist goalkeepers are hard to come by and have a pricetag that would make Solomon weep - see Emirates Marketing Project paying £20m for a 33 year old.

They're usually bang on with team selection news tbf

Well i guess we will see, to be honest i never read the thing ( even when i see them laying around everywhere), whichever way our keepers rarely have a lot to do so its not that bad if its true.

When times are tough, we should turn T'Pau, but Don't push too far, your dreams are china in your hand
Don't wish too hard because they may come true
And you can't help them
Etc etc

They asked Poch in the news conference is it was a 'risk' if they had to play Lopez......and Poch just looked at them and said 'Why'.:)
