Pape Matar Sarr

Shame really, I think there is a good player in there, I think he suffers from the modern era of if you are not type x of a player or type y then you struggle to find a place. In the old days of 4-4-2 he would have been a perfect CM for someone as he can run all day and get box to box, the need for that type of player now is nearly redundant

The more I watch and the more we've seen Mason, Carroll, Winks, Skipp and now Sarr not make the grade (despite a lot of excitement) the more I think CM is the position where a player's mentality and personality are most important. They can't hide, dip or switch off or it's catastrophic for the team as we saw on Saturday. They have no time on the ball whatsoever and can often get swamped. You need someone always fighting back without the ball or with it. It's the difference between having no control and losing compared to having control or some control and winning or drawing. At least at a club our size.
