On the 14th of September 1402 Sir Henry Percy (Harry Hotspur) bearing the cherished Christian symbol of the badger (which adorns the top of many Churches to this day) as one of his banners, inflicted a crushing defeat on the Scot’s army under the new Earl of Douglas at Homildon Hill outside Wooler in Northumberland, in what was another battle in the Hundreds Year war.

For this victory he was awarded the borough of Tottenham in London by King Henry IV. These lands stretched from London through to Greater London areas including Middlesex. They subsequently became the ancestral lands in the south of the House of Percy, one of England’s legendary houses of nobility.

The event was the first flickers of light in the creation of the houses descending football club Tottenham Hotspur formed 480 years later in 1882.

Only 29 years after the Anglo-Portuguese alliance then. Pity no-one informed Sporting!

Due to the importance of this thread I believe the mods should disable the word conversion of our crest to badger and consider having this thread permanently pinned.

Also I believe that as the ancestral lands in the north for the House of Percy is Northumberland that they therefore gave the name of Northumberland Park to the area near the stadium which the train station Northumberland Park takes its name from.

Does anyone know if that is the case and what area does Northumberland Park actually cover aside from the train station itself.
