*** OMT Tottenham v Aston Villa - Friday 16th May ***

This place might actually be worth avoiding for the next week TBH, between the in fighting and the 1001 ways of reminding people we sacked a manager before a final, its seriously harshing my buzz man

All the personal insults in general, in my opinion - there are too many of them all the time to keep calling them out without always going down the same routes of bickering. It's fan culture, it seems. Been watching the first season of Welcome to Wrexham lately, and even there in a small club way down in the Conference league, players and the manager are getting all this personal abuse flimflam. I don't get it, but I'm not sure how one goes about changing that behavior. All that toxic brick clearly hurts the team, as it will seep through to them and affect their game - but it's a big ask trying to change something like that in a group of 30 people, let alone in a group with millions of people.

Play the ball, not the man, for me, just don't shove your criticism down their throats through social media or whatever. The goalkeeper of fudging Wrexham in Conference league kept getting messages on Facebook, Twitter etc on how brick he was - in the Conference league! He said it made him not want to come into work, not want to walk around town. Can you imagine what our lads are getting? It's just fudging sad. So much for supporting a team. "But they earn so much they should handle it!" - they're humans, and will obviously perform better with support rather than abuse. It's hard to comprehend how someone could think otherwise.

Support the lads ffs. Cup final coming up. Positivity. Happy clapping, whatever. If you hate that in general, ok, but put that aside for a few days: Now's the fudging time to support the boys and the coach. All in with it. It spreads. The utopian theory, make two people positive, who each makes two people positive etc.

That was incoherent, but early morning here for me. Bottom like: COYS! Support the lads!

A fudging men, this is tottenham hotspur, you'd be hard pushed at the best of times to find a positive story or narrative about us, this should bring us together, instead we seem to swallow all the brick and regurgitate it only to eat it again.

The midfield 5 had an average age of 19 years. They are our future, and there's undoubtedly some big talents there. This squad, with a couple additions and departures and with a proper setup, is well capable of top 6. Our players are just as good as Villa.

And if for nothing else ange deserves credit (runs to behind coach) for keeping the youngsters not just on track but ahead of schedule.
Possibly he was forced but still did it.
Sarr, gray and Bergvall have all faired better than mason, bentaleb, winks, Skipp etc and all will go on to have better careers.

Your a-rse has got nothing to do with it. And you'd lose that bet, I assure you.

Don't know what you think that response proves, but we all know.

I think it’s a real black mark on this forum that no one else calls out this absolute garbage.

I've tried this before when the defenders of free speech have abused our players and staff but it's a waste of time. Social media has helped the lower forms of our species spout their offensive thought and language to the world.
We have it every season some player or staff are selected to be be the spacegoat and the're free to write what every bitterness and hatred they like. Its embarrassing and shameful.

Some of us have previously.

Led to the great 'its only words and I wouldn't care if I was racially abused in another country they should have thicker skins' debate.

An absolute classic few days that was

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have said 'no one' -- generally it's a pretty reasonable forum on that front. I do think a lot of comments about Ange have been given free range though.

I will add that I'm not meaning to create a pile-on on @mudshark. I know they said they're finding it miserable being a Spurs fan at the moment and I can't imagine I've helped there. We've all made comments like that before...but I've tried to start calling it out more because I just hate the toxicity that has enveloped supporting Spurs (and likely football in general.)

They’re far from the only one using ‘fat’ as an abusive description; I’m sure someone will pipe up next and tell us it’s ’factually correct’ and therefore shouldn’t be considered an insult or abusive.

I guess this is what we’ve become as a society and this forum only holds a mirror up to that.

To Steff’s point, I’m not sure saying something like that to someone’s face is better, although I get the point he’s making. To me, to think someone would consider saying that to someone’s face is an even sadder indictment of the society we live in.
