Norwich City host Tottenham Hotspur at Carrow Road on Sunday 23rd February 2014 (KO 16:00) in the 27th round of the 2013-14 Premier League season.

Norwich come into the match in 16th place in the table on 25 points with Spurs in 5th place on 50 points. This will be the 82nd time the two teams have met, and Tottenham have found Norwich a very tough nut to crack recently with just the one win in the last five matches.

Norwich City were founded in 1902 by three former Norwich Church of England Young Men's Society players. The club lost their amateur status in 1905 and joined the Southern League shortly afterwards.

The first meeting between Spurs and Norwich came in April 1906 in the Southern League and the East Anglian club won 4-1 at White Hart Lane. The reverse fixture at Newmarket Road was won by Spurs 3-0. Vivian Woodward scored three goals for Spurs against Norwich that season.

The clubs met for two further seasons in the Southern League, resulting in two wins for Norwich, a win for Spurs and a drawn match.

Spurs joined the Football League for season 1908-09 and the next meeting with Norwich came in the old second round (today's fourth round) of the FA Cup in January 1915 at "The Nest" in Rosary Road, resulting in a 3-2 win for the Canaries.

Four friendlies were played between 1916 and 1925 with Spurs winning two games, Norwich one and one drawn game.

The first Football League meeting between the two clubs came in the Second Division in December 1935 with Spurs winning 2-1 at the Lane, while Norwich won the reverse fixture 1-0 in April 1936 at their new home in Carrow Road.

The clubs met for a further three seasons in Division Two resulting in four wins for Spurs and two for Norwich.

During World War Two, Spurs & Norwich played two matches in the Football League South.

An FA Cup fifth round match in February 1959 ended in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane and Norwich pulled-off a 'giant killing' act by beating Spurs 1-0 in the replay at Carrow Road.

The first meeting in the Top Flight of English Football came in October 1972 when a Martin Chivers goal at Carrow Road wasn't enough to prevent a 2-1 win for Norwich.

The clubs contested the 1973 Football League Cup Final at Wembley and a Ralph Coates goal was enough to bring the silverware to White Hart Lane.

Martin Chivers scored a brace in Tottenham's 3-1 win against Norwich in the reverse First Division fixture at the Lane a week later.

The clubs met regularly in Division One from season 1973-74 to 1991-92 with honours being generally even.

Both Spurs and Norwich were founder members of the Premier League in 1992-93, but the Canaries lost their top flight status after the 1994-95 season and returned for one season in 2004-05. Spurs won 6 of the 10 Premier League matches played with Norwich winning twice and two drawn games.

The clubs met in a pre-season friendly at Carrow Road in July 2008 with Darren Bent scoring four goals in a 5-1 Spurs win.

The fixture at Carrow Road in December 2011 resulted in a rather comfortable 2-0 away win for Spurs, thanks to a brace of goals scored by Gareth Bale in the 55th and 67th minutes. Things were rather different for the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane in April 2012 with Spurs losing 1-2 to Norwich. Jermain Defoe scored for Spurs with Anthony Pilkington and Elliott Bennett netting for the Canaries in a match which would prove vital for Tottenham's Champions League qualification chances.

During the Summer of 2012, former Spurs player and assistant manager Chris Hughton was appointed Norwich manager, Cameroon defender Sebastien Bassong moved from Spurs to Norwich for a £3,750,000 transfer fee and Spurs striker Harry Kane joined Norwich on a season's loan.

The Premier League match at White Hart Lane in September resulted in a 1-1 draw with Mousa Dembele putting Spurs ahead after 68 minutes only for Robert Snodgrass to score a late equaliser with just five minutes remaining.

The clubs met in the 4th Round of the Football League (Capital One) Cup at Carrow Road at the end of October and Gareth Bale put Spurs ahead in the 66th minute. An own goal from Jan Vertonghen, who deflected an Alex Tettey shot, levelled matters after 84 minutes and Norwich progressed to the 5th Round through a Simeon Jackson goal three minutes later.

The game at White Hart Lane in January 2013 ended with honours even after a 1-1 draw. Wes Hoolahan put the visitors ahead after 32 minutes but a stunning solo goal from Gareth Bale ten minutes from time shared the points.

Goals in each half from Gylfi Sigurdsson won the three points for Spurs in their Premier League home match against Norwich in September 2013.

Overall, Spurs have won 35, Norwich have won 24 and 22 of the 81 matches between the two clubs have been drawn.

Suddenly everyone thinks Dembele should play on the wing. When he was at Fulham he played as a number 10, but he never got hardly any goals or assists. Jol took over and saw that with his upper body strength, ability to retain the ball and move into space his talents would be better served back in midfield. He was a revelation there. So much that we parted with a good 15m for him. Now Sherwood thinks just because he has the ability to beat a man that he should be playing on the wing. His reluctance to shoot or to pick out a real pass means he is useless in that position. He is better deeper, passing the ball off and retaining possesion.

I can't recall ever seeing Dembele cross a ball so yeah sticking him on the wing seems kind of pointless.
 
According to the media, if Norwich lose heavily it could cost Chris Hughton his job. I've always liked the guy and as much as I'd love to see him be successful at Norwich, I want to see us win even more. Sorry Chris.

Personally I'd play two up front on Sunday - I really think Soldado needs as much game time as possible to work through this loss of form, but at the same time Adebayor clearly needs to start right now. My team would be:

Unfortunately I don't think there's a chance in hell that we'll see that side. Bentaleb is bound to start and Adebayor will be up front on his own. I think we'll win in either case, but we'd score more with my team selection, though we might also concede more.

Same keeper and defence as the one that kept the sheets clean at Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Midfield needs changing up slightly - preferably with Bentaleb getting dropped and Eriksen moving to the no. 10 position. Unlikely, but I hope to see it. All of our wingers are underperforming or not very good so it's not a huge deal who gets played wide, as long as hopefully it isn't Dembele, Eriksen or Sigurdsson out of position. Lennon seems the likely pick after being rested midweek, Townsend/Chadli are both pretty poor but will have to make do. Adebayor obviously comes in for Goaldado.

Either way, we should have enough to win here. Norwich are crap, as evidenced by their unbelievable lack of wins in the last two or three months. We on the other hand aren't great but have developed a knack for winning away from home regardless. Having said that Emirates Marketing Project drew here recently so perhaps it won't be all that easy. Love Chrissy Hughton but if a Spurs win condemns him to the sack then so be it.

I predict a relatively comfortable 0-1 win. Adebayor with the goal (of course).

Tim Sherwood has confirmed a number of the players who didn’t travel to Dnipropetrovsk this week are back in contention for Sunday’s Premier League match at Norwich City.

Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, Younes Kaboul, Mousa Dembele, Aaron Lennon and Emmanuel Adebayor were left at home for our Europa League excursion, but Tim confirmed that are all back in the frame for the trip to Carrow Road.

Tim has also been pleased to see Sandro making good progress on the road to full recovery from a calf problem, the Head Coach reporting that the Brazilian international midfielder is “getting nearer” to a return to first team action.

Vlad Chiriches and Erik Lamela remain out.

He did well in a wide role against Saudi Sportswashing Machine I thought. Also gives us a lot of running and athleticism with Dembele and Lennon wide in that formation, helped us properly stifle Saudi Sportswashing Machine for large periods in that game.

Not sure how anyone could use words like useless or pointless about any player in a position they played in against Saudi Sportswashing Machine. And yes I'm aware Saudi Sportswashing Machine aren't great, but Norwich won't exactly be superb either I'm guessing although they might put up more of a fight.

And "sticking him on the wing" is a bit of a biased description, he wouldn't be a winger and he wouldn't be sticking anywhere. He would be given freedom to move and do his thing.

Good news, and more or less as expected they were probably more or less rotated/rested for the Dnipro game.

A couple of questions, but most of the players in the team pick themselves I think.

Adebayor evidently picked up a deadleg against Hull and has been playing through the injury since. Hopefully, the week and a half off has given him a chance to fully recover.

Eriksen surely has to play. I'd do Eriksen for Bentaleb and then the same team against Saudi Sportswashing Machine
