OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v South Coast's Biggest Club

Levy is not doing any of this out of some warped spite!
He is governed by events on and off the pitch!
Poch was floundering due to squad decay and familiarity giving way to the contempt with some player-wise!
Mourinho now has to step up and organise.
He may well have to wait till the summer for new player though imho

good point, we sign the players we can afford

His stubbornness led to him tieing at least one of those hands behind his own back. Don't you think he had discussions with Levy along the lines :

Levy - the Club has £ x available for new players ( plus any amount raised in sales). You can buy 6 players or one - as long as the total doesn't exceed £ x)

That is the prudent way to run a club.

Poch ( and his recruitment team) failed miserably to find the right players at the right price.

Huge point as well, if our transfer committee is recommending players already at PL clubs they are not working hard enough, we need to be getting to these players first.

Im not going to hold it against a manager that he couldn't buy players good enough to maintain/improve a 2nd in the league team/squad whilst on a shoestring budget far below the teams he's expected to compete with.

Yes that was me - but if your chairman won't sell what do you do?

Leicester have a recruitment team in place that work independently of the manager, we do not, we have a few contacts that throw up names who get offered to the manager when we realize his actual targets don't align with our break even policy.

Hands tied behind his back and supporters expect him to deliver each season without so much as a misstep

How do you know it was the Chairman who wouldn't sell? Maybe it was Poch who was too stubborn/loyal to his existing players?

Obviously hearsay, but supposedly Rose had the option of Watford but Poch told him he’d still be involved if he stayed. Maybe a different message would have helped make his mind up.

That sounds unlikely when he had spoken repeatedly about the need to overhaul the squad. This summer he went as far as saying

"Now it’s about creating another chapter and to have the clear idea of how we are going to build that new project. We need to rebuild. It’s going to be painful.”

Personally, I doubt Poch made the decision to leave Rose behind from preseason tour completely, ostensibly to find a new club, while simaltaneously telling him he'd still be involved.

That little story never made sense to me.

That doesn't really square with him being left out of the pre-season tour squad. I do think that Poch did try to publicly distance himself from transfer activity this summer though because he had half a mind on needing to work with the players if they weren't sold.

The Watford deal was supposedly agreed during the tour right, the conversation must have happened when Poch returned, if it happened at all.

I think that was key. He really wanted the players who were no longer buying into his methods out of the door 18 months ago and they are all still here now.

Then he should have been stronger and axed them from the team and squad. That would surely have precipitated their early exit.

He done that with Alderweireld, only we didn't sell him when we had the opportunity.

I'd love to see an alternate reality where Poch sends a couple of key players off to the reserves for a season, sacrificing points in the table and see how supporters would react :D

And he left Rose off the pre-season tour. He was in a really difficult position when he was still at the club when they returned.

How do you call £100m + “shoestring” (3 players in last window approximately)

We bought one of Poch's targets in very early, for £55 million. An 18 year old in for £10 million, who can't get into Leed's squad, so definitely for the future.

Then spent most of the window faffing around and brought in Sess and GLC in the last days (maybe day?) of the transfer window, one for £25 million and one for £15 million on a loan fee, in a genius move to reduce the payments to PSG but which means that over halfway into the season, he's appeared about 4 times and is still some way off the pace.

Also the unfortunate reality that in the current financial climate and at the level we're now trying to shop at (as well as the self imposed handicap of 2018), £100 million is no longer the squad overhaul it would have been 10 years ago. It is simple window dressing.
