*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur FC v Manchester United ***

Dunno what we're good at and what we are even trying to be.
We don't have a particularly good team so to an extent that should be expected and when you look at what the staring lineup was today can we really say the performance surprised any of us? Was super predictable for me and I said so before the game started.

The table is gonna be super tight after today, we will sink down a bit, so many teams near us.

We have the Goons away and Arse away next, so completely different situations and formations required, need to grind it out.
Then Fulham come to the Lane, then we are back up to Newcash land.
Bloody hell, hate that fixture and will be doubly tough this time!

So I am foolish to expect that Spurs should beat Utd at our stadium .. I think it is time for me to leave this game.

We really should be beating most teams at our stadium.

But at the moment with poor results, poor performances at home, and then the injuries and pre international break. It was going to be a tough game.

The goals conceded really has peeved me right off. They did not outplay us. Granted we were not great. But they were there for the beating.
bricky corner and inability to kick the ball out is how they scored.
At least Villa scored from outside the box

Gaaaah, that’s frustrated me. I had forgotten how their first goal came about, just a dumb lazy clearance that gives them a chance to get another ball into the box. And then to concede a corner and concede from that against ten mins, it’s actually pretty ridiculous.

Going to take take to eradicate the lazy defending installed over the past few years

Seen signs we can defend well for 90s mins, and games like today

I think in fairness to the coaching staff, it’s a philosophy around not conceding many chances but also creating high quality chances when we get there. I’m not saying it’s clicking yet, and it’s not the same as a barrage of pressure that eventually overwhelms teams, but I think the coaches can rightly claim that in the games we’ve lost, the opposition have not been good. We got suckered by two amazing goals against Villa, stupidity against Chelsea and today, stupidity again. But I think the system is denying the opposition much real creativity.

We do clearly though have to continue to get better on the offensive end though. The second half was a step in the right direction, and we’re also dealing with a lot of injuries particularly offensively. I think we’re getting closer, but when it doesn’t click it’s going to look like as you rightly say, it looks like not much of anything.

Nah, I really don’t want to do an Ange defence but there’s a difference between installing a system that believes in giving up chances in order to create more, and the silly individual errors we saw today and against Chelsea.

I feel like I’m getting behind what Frank is trying to achieve, in terms of the solidity we are showing and getting unlucky with in some cases, and where the offence will come. But it doesn’t mean what came before has to be talked down.

Its not just Ange, under Conte and that clown season with 15 managers we conceded a ton of goals, some of those players are still here - even from back then, almost having to teach some of the players that defending is important again

Have not caught up with comments yet...

I give Frank full credit for seeking a more progressive performance and trying to send us out to be positive and attacking the spaces and pockets (wish he'd started Destiny and Died but can't have everything).

Full credit to Odobert for taking on his man (and the green space behind) more than I've seen this season, and I have to say combinations are always fun to see.

Frank deserves sympathy with regards to injuries; it's one thing not having Madders, Deki, and Solanke, but missing the likes of Bergvall and Gray are especially tough in matches like this.

Simons continues to slowly grow which is great, however I felt sorry for him much of the time because he's a fast-touch players, and often, he'd receive the ball and see NO movement around or infront of him. The way we set-up simply is not getting the best out of him IMO.

Richy missed that early header, piled through a tremendous amount of work, and got his reward in the end (albeit from a wonderful strike/ball in from Odobert).

Utd sending their keeper up freed that back-post space (we fell for it) which was galling but you'd take that after what was a bang-average bordering on poor match. Utd setting up so deep for so much of the game did not help the quality.

I think today was certainly a glass half-full 96 minutes in context, and thankfully a long way from Chelsea in terms of approach at least. Onwards!
