Is there a 2nd game to XCOM? That looks like a FPS, but didn't someone (you?) post a video which looked more RTS?

Yes mate, that video looks to be a lot of cutscenes but it is to promote the RTS game and not the FPS. If you look at the shots of the base etc, that is actually what the base will look like in the game.

Ah right I see, liked the look of the RTS footage from the earlier video, might have to pick that up in the autumn.

Finally bought Mafia 2, much better than I was expecting from the reviews I'd read. Good price now too.

What was the other 50s type game that came out in the last year or so, was it something noire?

Can anyone recommend any decent RTS games? preferably back catalogue and not brand new as my laptop won't be able to run them. Had my fill of Total War games for the time being

I've got the original X-Com running on my touchpad with a DosBox port at the moment, cracking stuff. Galactic Civilizations II and Sins of a Solar Empire published by StarDock are both cracking games. Star Wars - Empire at War. Warcraft III, Starcraft from Blizzard. Warhammer 40k games. There's loads. I think there was a page in this very thread where everyone listed their favourite strategy games.

L.A. Noire... Made by the fellas who made GTA, it was a detective game bit similar to Mafia and GTAs gameplay but you had to solve crimes and question suspects/witnesses. Pretty decent from what i played of it but i never finished it.

Mafia 2 was really enjoyable despite the odd frustrating moments (didnt like the car chases in snow and fist fights) but great story. Could easily be a movie like Casino or Goodfellas

Does anyone remember Manhunt?
Keith Vaz still has nightmares.

Did you set the driving style to realistic or whatever it is? I avoided that one :)

LA Noire is another I've been meaning to get for years, that can be next.

I loved LA Noire, my only issue with it (avoiding spoilers here) was that it peaked way too early.

Great concept, the sequel or next in the series will likely be much improved too.

All the Tennis has made me want to buy a Tennis game for the PS3.. what is the best one out there, is Top Spin still dominating?

Just started playing Red Dead Redemption. Brilliant game and more enjoyable than GTA, for me anyway.

Red Dead is one of the best games I've ever played on a console.

The free to play Mechwarrior is looking very very good.

Enjoying Tribes Ascent, even though I'm absolutely shocking at it!

I used to play the first two. I would rate them as having one of the highest learning curves in any FPS game I've ever played. It's got the vehicles, classes, gadgets/turrets, cloaking. And the spinfusor.

Nailing sons of bitches with this thing in mid air was one of the best feelings ever. Also, learning to ski took me a long time, but flying all over the huge maps was fun.
