Nico Paz

Sounds like the player really wants to end up at Madrid so happy to stay for another year.

May be chartering on conspiracy theory territory but do you reckon Levy’s reputation as being difficult to deal with would be in a players mind signing for us? If we signed Paz and Madrid try to sign him in the next 2 years then Levy would be a nightmare for Madrid
Maybe in some cases. Though we've been able to sign some fantastically talented players with Levy in charge so if true not always the case.

If a player sees us as just a stepping stone to that extent sign someone else instead anyway.
Not bad shout. My view is more conspiracy theory. Levy does everything he can to try sign said players as a smoke screen, when the real aim is to sign the next Bale or Rodon diamond in the dirt.

Sounds way off, but doesn't feel it....
I doubt Levy would put much effort in a smoke screen operation. Doesn't seem worth it. The agent of whoever we actually want to sign will probably make it clear enough to other interested clubs anyway.

We've tried and sometimes partially successfully to keep a transfer secret and had other clubs catch onto it anyway (William and Luiz as examples iirc). We probably could fool parts of the media with a smoke screen, but we're not going to fool agents and clubs to any significant degree imo.

Hopefully Don Paratici has got some proper ITK at Como to determine whether Paz is as desperate to return to his boyhood club as Eze was so we don’t waste our time on him if so; for all of Fabriano Romano’s relentless tweeting, how did he not guess that Woolwich had a board meeting to discuss the transfer after Eze begged Legohead to sign him?!

Guess it also depends on how much self confidence Paz has but if he’s this highly regarded at the age of 20 then he probably believes that another season exhibiting his talents in Serie A will give him a better chance of becoming the heir to Kroos than trying to adapt to the rigours of EPL.

If simultaneous efforts were/are not done for more achievable alternatives and we don't see a CM signing before Monday, this will go down as another transfer gaffe... to dare may be to do but only when it is in your control. Didn't anyone at the club not envisage that the deal was of no benefit to neither Real Madrid or Como and therefore the chances of success were negligible?

Tottenham: Nico Paz transfer truth confirmed by Como after rejected bid reports

Spurs are said to have made two bids for Paz, the last one totalling more than £60m, but Como owner Mirwan Suwarso has denied the reports.
“It’s not true that we rejected the offer," Suwarso told Corriere della Sera.

Paz is still part-owned by Real Madrid, who are reportedly able to match any offer made for the player and hold a buy-back clause worth just €10million which becomes active next summer.

Suwarso noted the complexities of Paz's rights, adding: "No one formalises an offer knowing that then we should send them to Real Madrid, who have the right to match."

A typically wonderful piece of journalism which translates to "some bloke down the pub said Spurs have bid for La Paz at Combo" but it might not be true. There is some confusion about tie up with some other team I don't know any details but I'll chat about with a mate and we'll make something up to fill space.

Off the top of my head, Cavani, Hazard, Mane, Winiijdum (for a period), some would say Ollise but I'm not sure how close we got to actually ever getting him.
@SpurMeUp Why did you disagree? These are all players we have certified information regarding how close we were to signing them. Hazard even said in an interview he spoke directly with Harry and if we had finished in the CL that year he would have joined us instead.

Who is providing the certificates?

In the case of Hazard the player himself. The rest you could argue are speculation if you want to believe that we never went in for Mane and Gini for example. Instead we just have poor player ID and instead wanted and desired Sissoko and N’jie instead. 🤷‍♂️

I forgot to mention Suarez and Fernandes as well both who have also publicly talked about the move to us.

So if we ended up in the champs league he would have come to us… but we didn’t. So he didn’t ?

So what’s the point you are trying to make here?

Listing the player we were linked with who weren’t a huge hit might give a more realistic appraisal. We’re in the mix for a lot of players. And why wouldn’t we be?

But what’s funny is how you passively disliked my post and didn’t outline why. Wasn’t hard to find one of yours to reciprocate- and you post questioning why! 😂 if you’re going to hand them out, you have to be able to take them.

I don't know if you missed it but what I replied to was someone saying who were good players we missed out on thus my reply. It wasn't what players have we missed out on period, but instead specifically the good ones.

I'm not fussed about you disliking my post I just wondered what about it you disagreed with. That's the point of this forum, discussion hence why I asked you the question.

Again maybe read up what I was replying to. The initial question was "what world class players have we missed out on?"

The names I posted were questioned, Hazard was one of those. It's really not that difficult. 😅

Right… I’m just not sure Hazard saying that he would have come if we got Champs league counts as “missed out on”.

Especially in terms of the majority of discussions claim we “miss out on” players because we don’t pay the wages required, or “we take too long to reach a deal”

The thing is we don't know the specifics unless it's explicitly stated the reason why we might have missed out on a particular transfer. Some will be wages, some ambition, sometimes winning possibilities, sometimes maybe even location. I was answering the question as it was stated, wages weren't actually mentioned originally and I don't think wages are the sole reason we have been unable to sign players although wages can be the thing that solves all obstacles.
