New Stadium and Training Ground - Pg 104 Northumberland Park master plan

Lyons new stadium, anyone else see a wall type stand behind the goal on 58 secs, It seems like the boxes stop, as does ours on our design, but the stand is better incorporated with the stands either side, with the top tier continuous.
kinda but not really
There are walkways I think
Hard to see on my iPhone
It is not one CONTINUOUS bank of seats. I think it's more that they don't have boxes all the way round for whatever reason.
They mention architects anglais and stades anglais and arsenalle wembley londres a lot

I am confuesed... Would anyone care to tell me the capacity of this new stadium? I've seen so many numbers thrown about and i don't know which one is a close estimate. Does anyone here know it or round about what it'll be?
At the moment it's officially 56,250 as that's the figure we've got planning permission for. There are rumours that we're going to submit a change to increase the capacity a little, but nobody knows for sure. Well, except for people like Daniel Levy, of course :)

Cant wait for the first brick to be layed. It really does seem that the next ten years could be a great time to be a Tottenham fan!!

I know many people here disagree with me, but I actually hate the way our stadium and the emirates "dips" in the corners and is not the same height all the way around. Just looking at the video of Lyon's new group re-affirms by thoughts. Also our single tier stand simply does not work for me. Lyon's stadium is a far better design.

In my opinion the the traditional bowl-shape stadium design, like lyons with no dipping in the corners, combined with the amount exec boxes, including the "box-level" tier, would make the perfect stadium. They seem to have got the capacity right as well (61K)

Is it too late to redesign our ground?

61k capacity for Lyon seems insanely optimistic. I could be totally wrong on that and maybe OL have a massive local following, but with average attendances in Ligue 1 just under 20,000, 61k seems like a hell of a stretch.

I think you'll find a lot of people agree with you actually, one of the worst things for me about new stadiums are the dipping corners that so many of them have. Makes the stadium look much less intimidating.

It does look like that they have designs on a wall, but aren't really wanting to want to make a design feature out of it like KSS want too. I wish ours was continous on the top tier.

I don't know of anyone, other than the architects, who would disagree with you. KSS came up with some PR flimflam about the stadium's form reflecting Spurs' "flowing" football.* Truth is, they just wanted the stadium to look architecturally interesting (though hardly original). And they were also conforming to current thinking about optimising viewing distances. Obviously, fans in the upper corners will be further away from the action than fans in any other part of the stadium.

But fans don't really care whether or not the interior of a stadium looks architecturally interesting. Nor, within reason, do they care about viewing distances. It's not as if the seats towards the bottom of the upper tier corners are so very much closer to the pitch than any seats towards the top of the upper tier corners would have been had they been included in the design. In fact, seats in the very upper corners would be a perfect opportunity to offer tickets at slightly cheaper prices.

For me, the sharply dipping corners in the current design have an emasculating effect. They dissipate the sense of it being a bear pit. They relieve the mild claustrophobic effect that all great stadiums impart.

Probably wishful thinking, all too sadly, but I'm hoping that the proposed capacity increase redesign will see the dipping corners filled in, at least to some extent.

* If we're going down that line, then the predominant design theme should be triangles, surely? Triangles are what Push And Run is based on, after all!

Are you talking about the average attendance for Ligue 1 as a whole?

Because, over the past ten years, Lyon have averaged 35-39K in a 40K stadium. Respectable.

I doubt that they will sell out 60K too often. But they are a big club, situated in a big city. So they'll get pretty decent crowds for most games.

I imagine they'd come close to selling out for CL games and for top-of-the-table clashes with the likes of Marseille, PSG et al, so I think it's a solid move by them.

I do agree, completely, but that 'bear pit' effect would be provided by the proximity of the stands to the pitch, I think. As for Push-and-Run being based on triangles, Triangle-shaped stadium ftw! 20,000 seats each stand, there's no way you could lose!

What do you guys think of these, then? They've all got rather innovative designs that look absolutely fantastic. Now, I'm proud of our NDP, whatever it's eventually called, but these stadiums are pushing the envelope in terms of architectural sophistication, and I would have quite liked our stadium to look like Bordeaux's. Or Lilles, with the retractable roof. Ah, well.

The Bordeaux one will definitely stand out. The other two were a bit meh, nothing innovative.

Lille's is just a boring version of the Allianz Arena and the Haifa one reminds me of this:
