Morgan Gibbs-White

One thing I could never figure out is why we didn’t just bid a few mill under the clause and then negotiate from then on? If we eventually hit the number that matches his release clause then we’d be in the clear right?
You believe there was a clear release clause? I don’t
What I think may have been in was a clause that a CL club can have him for a fee and their owner has said we ain’t a CL club…. That rumour came out this week and that stacks up with his ego

Maybe Levy shouldn’t say that’s the aim then. He could just be vague and say “we want to be a top team and compete with the top clubs blah blah blah” or some other BS but stop short of saying we need to win the league and the CL. Or if you are going to say it then act like it. Poch even said years ago “we need to act like a big club” and in some ways we do but in other areas we’ve been found wanting for a while.

I agree to an extent, but being honest mate and one reason I mention age recently, at 43 I can make up my own mind on stuff and I know we are not winning the league anytime soon, so even if Levy or anyone is silly enough to mention winning the league we can all make our own minds up reasonably right? Like. your expectation on winning the league in the near future didn't change from Levy speech did it? Mine certainly didn't

Mine didn’t
I just thought it was standard words from any chairman
I don’t remember him saying next season too but I may have missed that

Where does this leave the complaint about us that forest lodged with the FA/Prem or whoever it went to? Does that just go away now or could there be potentially a punishment for tapping up a player we didn’t actually sign?

Fair play to Marinakis. He’s on a fast track to making forest the most disliked team in the prem

They never did lodge anything

Why would i put you on ignore?

It is ok to disagree with each other. You can even argue as long as you aren't insulting or rude or take it personally.

We don't need a safe space or comfort.

He can actually do what he likes, including 'taking it personally' if he perceives something that way. You cannot dictate terms to him. Facts.

BTW, no-one 'needs' a 'safe-space' or 'comfort' but I believe most people are honest enough to admit they'd like more of both.

Interesting arguments. However a release clause doesn't mean the player must move to the club once agreed. It just means that the club can talk to the player. I am yet to be convinced that MGW really wanted to move to Spurs. I have a stronger feeling that he and his agent played Spurs against Forest with a view to getting a stronger deal. MGW would never be a 200k a week player for Spurs.

When you say ‘we’ve noticed you saying X’ it feels a bit personal to be honest. Like I’m against this wider group that you are representing.

I’m fine disagreeing with people. But you seem to come back at a lot of my posts with ‘we just don’t know’ or ‘it is what it is’. I am a fan of Tottenham, but I want us to push on. It is what it is isn’t enough for me. And we just don’t know would render this whole forum pointless, other than to praise or criticise players on match days.

Libz has discovered a 'zero zen' side I think. I. too, have received this sort of 'back and forth' in recent times. Take it as s sign that perhaps the pain of caring about what this club dioes/will do affects us all in different ways...

Of all the rumours I've heard, that would be the most ridiculous if it is true because it is a matter of fact that we ARE, in season 2025/26, a Champions League club!!!!

MGW is CCA-Stellar. I'd be looking at their client list. It feels as though the agency/agent is most culpable here, and I am punting that our silence reflects the fact we are working on a deal for someone else, likely on their roster.
Perhaps Mainoo or Grealish? Interesting to note that Toney is a client of theirs too. I think we may well leverage this situation...

Levy got played?

I don't know, I think the media overplayed the transfer saga, and that the club weren't in as deep as some fans suspected.

Perhaps the players agent was fishing for a new contract for MGW?

What i cannot understand is when the release clause was apparently known in the media why not one other European club came in for him? Not one.

Perhaps Spurs didn't want to match or outbid the contract that Marinakis was offering MGW?

There comes a time that a buying club see's through the main aim of the player and that that player just wants the money above anything else?

For sure we don't want that mindset of a player at the club.

You know that’s the agency we get out players through?

There is no CCA-Stellar

CAA-Base is (mostly) soccer and CAA-Stellar is (mostly) non-soccer

Seems to me that Spurs triggered a clause and offered MGW a rise from £80kpw to £140kpw or whatever... then Marinakis offered him £200kpw.

Follow the money.

Well you’re right that we can all make our minds up about whether we will win the league or not. But what Levy says is also important. Same goes for Thomas Frank as they are the two main spokesmen for the club. They are delivering the overall message from the club outwardly. And like it or not, what they say will be scrutinised. It’s different if someone asks him “do you think we can win the league?” And he’s backed into a corner but from what I can gather he’s said it off his own back.

Of course but it's only important if you believe it TBH

Guys, clearly he did not mean this year.
He just meant that we (Levy) wants to win the league at some point in the future.
He was basically saying "I don't want to fanny around in mid table, I don't want to only get 4th, I want to win the league one day".

And it also answers a common complaint from supporters regarding the limit of his ambitions.

I think even the most rose-tinted glasses fan wouldn’t expect a title push this season.

Out of curiosity, when Levy made that statement did you think he meant for this season we should be challenging?

No. He knows we’ll never challenge for the PL while ENIC are in charge. It’s not what they’re about.

It was meant to sound aspirational in a non-specific way (a bit like the ‘game-change’ we could expect post-stadium) and to placate a section of the fan base disposed to having faith in what he says.
