Mathys Tel

Tel had an off game yesterday. That can happen, but I'm still not really seeing what he brings, apart from will to work hard. Maybe he's phenomenal in training, but I think he's looked very average so far.
Still very young, so I'm not judging him just yet, but I'd want to see some improvement over the next months.

dont think its the pen thats wrong, you cant blame him for that. But take a look at Tel when he came on, we had run and closed players down all game, he didnt do it once. Ppl said he was fast when he joined, I cant see that, looks like he dont give a damn. In Moore you see the talent in getting past your man.. I realy dont see anything spesial about him.
Wrote about that in the OMT. But I suspect that was him playing to instructions. And that when we defend deeper Frank doesn't want one player with fresh legs sprinting around pressing when others can't keep up and prefers for them to stay in position.

Tel showed several times last season that he's very happy to run and press. Had he come on while we were still doing that as a team I think he would have too.

You mentioned that VDV had his chant sung after his miss and asked why Tel didn't get the same level of support after his?

If Tel had a chant I'm sure it'd have been rolled out at that point

Considering the abuse he got I don’t think that’s true. “There’s only one Danny Thomas” was pretty simple.

I don't think anyone here can really make a case that he's been a world beater or a success so far. He hasn't been particularly impressive. So criticism of his performances are fair enough. Abuse isn't and I also think writing him off is massively unfair. There is a lot of context here:

1. He's young
2. He's settling into a new country and new language
3. He's primarily been playing in a team that had thrown in the towel

You can't judge a lad in those circumstances. We've also had lads who have struggled here initially who went on to do very well (Bale being the greatest example of it). Tel could be one of those or he could continue to be meh. Who knows.
