Match ratings vs Swansea

You said you was fed up of his passes going astray. It's been proved that didn't happen at all.

Don't understand the mindset of 'fans' who just invent things to try and belittle the performance of a player they don't rate or like....

Our memory or impression of the game might be completely different from what stats would tell us. A lot of times I was surprised by the match data, as they were quite different from how I felt when watching the game live.

So then he should have just acknowledged the fact that he got it wrong instead of trying to support the idea a 95% pass rate isn't impressive anyway.

Not that I can see how someone can just dream up Gallas consistently giving the ball away when he didn't at all anyway, but maybe that's just me....

Majority of passes to other cb or the goalkeeper.

So having such a high passing percentage isn't that impressive really.

how can you tell that from the map?

and whats wrong with passing to your goal keeper or your CB partner? maybe it could be a thing that passing isnt gallas' thing and it is verts instead...defenders are great because they are great passers.

i would expect you to appreciate that more than most. dont try and do something you cant, specialise and stick to what you're good at etc etc. i agreed with it then and i stll do now

but how can you tell who he passed to?

By looking at the map and remembering where our defenders spent their majority of time playing.

When he's passing it to the keeper and his cb partner that's fine, however then i'd be expecting him to have a minimum 95%.

really? just like that?

how do you know who he passed to based on the evidence of that map?

plus you said you were fed up of his stray passes? implying there were loads or more than you can take...i would assume that was a significant amount..but maybe all you can take is ...2 bad passes?

if he hit 95% then he would have had to make 100 passes to just miss 5 only......even if he made 5 bad passes in 90 minutes, thats one bad pass every 18 minutes.....so in like the beginning of the second half you must have flipped out when he made his 2nd or 3rd bad pass...and just threw your hands up "this fudger cant pass for brick...look he passed it wrong again for the 2nd or 3rd time!!! "

everything above is hypothetical story telling btw...in short i just dont get your point. seems more to me you dont like gallas so you just latch on to any point you can think of and make a bit of an issue about it. that kind of behaviour does the rounds here alot...i do it quite often with Lloris and Kaboul

so you're using an educated guess on that...hold on , let me have a look

edit:- dont think i didnt see that minimum of 95%...

i say this in a VEEEERRY friendly manner...non confrontational, love you to bits...but if you expect anyone for anything to actually have a minimum of 95% pass rate then you're off the rails man

Special mentions to Sandro, Verts, Andros when he came on, Lennon for his covering work, and Lloris for two game saving punches at the end.

Lloris 7
Walker 6
Gallas 7
Vertonghen 7
Naughton 7
Dembele 8
Sandro 7
Lennon 7
Dempsey 6
Defoe 6
Adebayor 7

i cant properly from that which half is which....1st or second...for some of them passes

spursalot is right though..alot seem to go to the CB partner...

but a significant amount seems to have gone to the full backs and holding mids....or which ever mid was deeper.....

how do you explain the forward passes otherwise? was verts constantly overlapping the striker to receive that ball ahead>....? not sure...

95% is fairly impressive eventhough defenders mostly have higher passing accuracy (due to they do more of those between their defensive mates passes). Just to show how good is 95%, Opta mentioned that had we kept up with the 91.6% passing accuracy from 1st half, it would be our highest passing completion % since 2005/06.

Well yes, an educated guess.

Just like every opinion on here is.

An educated guess backed up by the map and the fact that i watched the match and watched him make all of those passes.

I am off the rails. I am completely rat-arsed at the moment.

The pass map means nothing, fact is he misplaced 3 passes from 57 in 95 minutes. That does not equal countless misplaced passes.

Of the passes he completed they were bread and butter ones that i would expect even a conference player to even do. It is obvious that you notice the ones when he is under pressure the "important" ones, these are the ones he constantly gives away today and whenever he plays.

Im not biased i was totally against the dempsey signing and slagged him off to the hills but last few weeks i have given him man of the match, if gallas want peoples last memory of him as a player to be of someone who can actually play football then i will give him better ratings.

He is our weak link and again was very poor today.

He was very poor today? Seriously? Take away the passing, which even though was fine isn't really what he's on the pitch to do anyway - what else did he do wrong today?

Thought Gallas had a great game today and his passing was excellent.

However, not sure we should really place too much faith in those pass stats tbh. Lies, damn lies and all that.

Do we even know how scientifically (or otherwise) they are compiled? Going by match analyses on the same game from different sources it's often hard to escape the conclusion that at least SOME of them are completely made up! Think of a number, double it, take away the number you first thought of ...

Just my tuppence'orth.

Opta have a team of monkeys who sit at a monitor pressing shortcut keys to log every action during a game.
