Teddy Sheringham
Sign him up quickly.
He's a decent tackler, but the thing is, when he wins the ball, Palhinha doesn't then go on to beat 4 defenders and then bang it in the top corner every time. If the guy did that, we'd score a lot more goals and consequently the club would have many more points propelling us to the title.
The guy probably should have resolved a few more ongoing conflicts in his time off the pitch as well, seems quite self interested to me and that's a problem for squad chemistry - Still major question marks over this one for me.
Your sarcasm detector is off kilter…His job is to make sure the players around him who can do that are freer to do so. He has actually banged a couple on FWIW, but that is not what he is there to do.
The true debate is whether someone thinks the modern game can afford to have a 'specialist' like that in the side in 2025, or whether allm midfielders have to be able to tackle/carry/pass/score in equal measure of proficiency.
I think the midfielder you're talking about is the near-mythical 100+ player. This season thus far -
Caicedo has 3 goals and 3 assists.
Rice has 2 goals and 2 assists.
Palhinha has 3 goals and 1 assist.
Ndaiaye has 4 goals and 1 assist.
He is mid-table of all midfielders of all styles in these stats this season. Even in the short table aboive, he is probably the purest 6.
With regard to 'ongoing conflicts in his time off the pitch' I actually had to google search that phrase alongside his name to come up with The Sun story on his marriage split. Can I ask what relevance this has to how you view him as a player, given it does not seem to have affected his performances and there has been no reporting of his private issues save this Sun thing from what I could see, and some photos of him holding his second child at the hospital??? You mentioned squad chemistry. Again, have I missed something here, because I see no comments or reports of him causing issues with squad chemistry?

That was politely put in fairness mateYour sarcasm detector is off kilter…
He has been undeservedly maligned because he isn’t Pirlo or Odegaard. I agree. He has been really good, and today he was excellent.
Pirlo had Gattuso next to him.
We're halfway there
You’re living on a prayer matewoah ooooh
We can sign him now for £25m but apparently Lange, etc are deciding in the summer, sums up this brickshowWe need his signature on a contract asap
Whats wrong with waiting for the summer? Still can sign him for 25m then.We can sign him now for £25m but apparently Lange, etc are deciding in the summer, sums up this brickshow
He has been outstanding pretty much every time he has played, he is exactly what we need in the team yet keeps getting dropped
He is 10 times the player Bentacur isWhats wrong with waiting for the summer? Still can sign him for 25m then.
He could do a serious injury between now and the end of the season, or other reasons come up not to sign. No benefit to signing him early.
He's not what we need every game. Some games like today yes, games we're going to dominate possession, no.
