January transfer window wishlist

Now I would say Thomas Muller from Bayern, he is not making the team at the moment, so he might be interested to change his current environment as Guardiola doesn't seem to rely on him to much...

I would love this so much but I put the chances of us picking him somewhere between 0 and 1%.

I am happy you know the Steaua players and what you say about Latovlevici is correct, he brings A LOT TO THE ATTACK. Like you said he is a flying left back, but he does have his weaknesses and the one that stand out is his marking. He sometimes gets to carried away with the attack and has some problems returning to his man. He would be great against weaker teams but we have conceded some goals because of his tendency to go forward.

im not to bothered about his defensive side, his marking. Kyle walker is the same. Walker too is not very smart when it comes to marking but AVB's team needs him like all of us need air. Walker and Latovlevici would give us real width and energy on both sides.

i see we have been linked with Coentrao again, but i dont think he is keen on joining Spurs., and even if he was im sure he will be very expensive. I cant think of many other attacking left backs we could genuinely attract in Jan, so to go for Latovlevici would be the smart move imo. He has a confident, almost arrogant attitude too which I like. I think he would be a massive success in the PL

Yes well in that case he would be good for Spurs. I have heard from his agent that LIVERPOOL ARE INTERESTED and there's a chance they will make a bid in the next transfer window.

If we still haven't sorted out our goal-scoring difficulties by January then we may need to take a look at another striker to replace Adebayor (assuming he doesn't come back from the wilderness - which he may do, we're all just speculating here) and provide another option up front. But personally I think there's a good chance we'll have solved that problem by the end of the year with the players we already have at the club.

So really, the one area we're crying out for a new #1 is left back. Rose looked decent enough at the start of the season, but I don't think Fryers is ready yet, I think Naughton is a liability on the left (but he's a decent back up to Walker on the right) and I think Vertonghen is wasted out on the left (though he is our best option for now... I don't blame AVB for playing him there). So even if we think Rose is good enough to be a first choice left-back for Spurs, this season has demonstrated we still need a back-up. And because I think the jury is probably out on whether or not Rose actually is good enough to be first choice, it might be prudent to get the best left back we can find and see if Rose meets the challenge.

So that'll be Coentrao then.

(and I still think we need a new #2 goalkeeper - if Gomes is out of the picture for good, then we need to be planning for life after Friedel).

Muller would be an outrageous signing, a player I have wanted for a few years and quite possibly enough for me to video myself as "Party Boy" from Jackass and post here were we to sign him…

Short of that, Baines please over Contrary...

Would they do that after having brought Cissokho along?
He said 1 month ago, Liverpool was one of the teams interested in Latovlevici, but not the biggest one. Now if you will excuse me Basel equalized us in the 93rd minute so I have to through up...

I'm a big fan of Coentrao, but I have some sympathy for the idea of getting Baines ahead of him - possible temperament issues and the fact that Coentrao is unproven in the premiership go against him. But in his favour he is - on his day - the better player in my view. Also, he's the better player while still being three years younger. Always a plus point. And finally - and most importantly - I'd put money on Baines moving to Manchester if he moves at all. I think we have a half-decent chance of landing Coentrao, which I doubt is the case with Baines.

We shouldn't buy anyone. The team is already up in the air enough has it is. We don't need to add more confusion to the matter. If we insist on spending money that's burning a hole in our pockets then a left back. But apart from that nothing.

We need to integrate basically all the players we signed in the summer, with none of them looking top drawer and settled. Get the new guys playing to their potential and the improvement will be akin to a few new top class signings.

Didn't Man U try and get Coentrao on deadline day? Either player would rather go to them, so see what one Man U sign then go for the other one :)

I do agree to some extent.

But for me LB is too big an area not to address.

I wouldn't do any more though, unless we could replace Ade and Defoe with one player, who could compete/cover for Soldado and perhaps be an option on the left too (Pato is going to be the drum I'm beating for January).

They moved for Coentrao after Baines collapsed, and ruined our deal for Coentrao. As Moyes will go for Baines again, I think we'll have a free run on FC.

I think we have addressed it, Verts with Rose as backup

Arguably the best CB in the league playing out of position?

A system that requires an attacking FB with high stamina and speed utilising a 6'2" CB there?

It's a highly specialised position in our system IMO. In fact I'd almost rather see Townsend or Lennon used there than I would Verts.

I can understand the thinking regards a new striker, but I wouldn't want someone who is coming to come in and challenge Soldado's first team place. I'm a great believer in having taken a player of the stature of Valencia's captain we need to show him the support and respect his reputation and record warrants and do everything we can to get him firing. I think loyalty or lack of it is a two way street in modern football, and the trust Soldado placed in us needs to be reciprocated.

To this end, I think i'd start using Kane as Soldado's understudy: came through the ranks, unlikely to kick up a fuss and increasingly proving to the uneducated masses (ie me) that he does have something about him. What happens if/when Soldado is injured? Well, part of blooding and putting faith in a youngster is playing him. We haven't exactly been relying on our striker to win us games for the past, what, 2 seasons? So if Kane has a couple of ineffectual performances on his way into the first 11 then that is to be a) expected and b) tolerated.

I think we really, really, really need to look within the squad for answers. Its big, talented and full of unlocked potential that new signings might result in becoming unrealised potential.

I would disagree. I think moving Verts out there is stop gap only. He does well in that position in fairness but it weakens us at CB. I also have seen him struggle badly at LB against the nippy winger types, so I think we'll be back in the market for a new LB come Jan.

I definitely agree with keeping Soldado as a very clear #1.

One of the reasons I'm keen on Pato though is because he can play anywhere across the front 3. As none of Chadli, Siggy or Lennon have really convinced on the left, I'd use him primarily there (probably like Liverpool will do with Sturridge once Coutinho is back and they go back to 4-3-3/4-2-3-1). He'd bring something a bit different too - a bit of creativity and trickery in the final third. He'd also play much closer to Soldado than any of our other wide players

I'm not sure Kane can play as a CF - he more a LF or SS isn't he. Coulthirst would be more the internal candidate I think. I'd be happy though to get rid of both Ade and Defoe, bring in one player, and promote Kane/Coulthirst.
